We’re approaching a long weekend: in Italy, Tuesday, June 2nd is a national holiday. As a result, many Italians take the opportunity to enjoy a few days off, either at the beach or in art cities such as Florence.

Our hand-picked selection includes plenty of free activities — from Saturday, May 30th through Tuesday, June 2nd.

On Saturday and Sunday, visit the Convent of Calza, a beautifully restored historic convent. Browse artisan stalls, relax in the cloister garden, and explore the museum route — all completely free.

Alternatively, on Saturday morning, you can join a free visit to the Church of San Bartolomeo in Monte Oliveto, where the church housing Leonardo da Vinci’s Annunciation was originally located.

On Saturday evening, enjoy a stroll along Via Romana and some shopping: local stores will stay open until midnight.

And if you’d like to venture outside the city and love wine, here are two great options:
* In Montespertoli, the Wine Festival features tastings and wine producers’ stands.
* Across Tuscany, and especially in the Chianti region, the event “Cantine Aperte” (Open Wineries) welcomes visitors for tours and wine tastings
