What to do in Florence for Easter?

On Easter morning, the Scoppio del Carro (Explosion of the Cart) takes place—a historic Florentine tradition.

Since it’s the first Sunday of the month, many museums are free, so take advantage of it.

If the weather is nice, climb to the top of the Dome of Florence Cathedral. Yes, there’s usually a bit of a line (and plenty of steps!), but the view from up there is absolutely worth it.

Looking for a tasty, non-touristy lunch spot? Ask us for some restaurant recommendations loved by locals.

Monday, April 6th is a public holiday, so you might find some attractions closed. If it’s sunny, visit one of the beautiful gardens.
Want to go where locals go? Take the tramvia to Parco delle Cascine. At the Ippodromo del Visarno, there’s the , where people sell items straight from their car trunks! There will also be a huge picnic.

If the weather is bad, visit the new exhibition at dedicated to Mark Rothko, one of the greatest figures in contemporary art.

And remember: in Italy, Easter means chocolate eggs! You can buy excellent ones at a historic delicatessen open since 1860.

Enjoy Florence!
