Caravaggio drew on the myth of Medusa. The painting depicts the severed head of Medusa, a monster described as a female woman with bronze hands and golden wings who had countless venomous snakes on her head in place of her own hair. Anyone who even so much as glanced at her, would be turned to stone. ⬜

Gates of Paradise, Italian Porta del Paradiso, the pair of gilded bronze doors (1425–52) designed by the sculptor Lorenzo Ghiberti for the north entrance of the Baptistery of San Giovanni in Florence. Upon their completion, they were installed at the east entrance.

Porta del Paradiso é la coppia di porte in bronzo dorato (1425-1452) progettate dallo scultore Lorenzo Ghiberti per l'ingresso nord del Battistero di San Giovanni a Firenze. Al loro completamento, furono installati all'ingresso est.

Piazza della Repubblica marks the centre of city. There is the Colonna dell'Abbondanza which marks the intersection of the axes of the "cardo" (now via Roma and via Calimala) and "decumanus" (now via degli Strozzi, via degli Speziali, and via del Corso).

Piazza della Repubblica è il centro della città sin dall'epoca romana. Qui, esattamente dove si trova la Colonna dell'Abbondanza, si incontravano il cardo e il decumanus maximi: le due vie principali della città.
