Kent State University Florence

Kent State University Florence Kent State University has been educating students in Florence for more than 40 years.

Home to the program is the Palazzo Vettori, which is a prestigious and ancient building located in the heart of Florence, at the corner of Via Cavour and Via Alfani, next to Piazza del Duomo. The fabric of the building started at the beginning of the 15th century and its façade proclaims the new ideas of Renaissance architecture based on the use of rustication.

The .fashionschool Florence students visited Venice last week, and it was an incredible experience!

We began with a deep dive into the archives of and an exclusive visit of to explore both textile heritage and contemporary entrepreneurship. At , we learned about the history of carnival and the tradition of masks in Venetian life. One highlight was our visit to the island of Burano, where we explored the Muve lace museum and discovered antique techniques and extraordinary craftsmanship.

Our students spent the weekend exploring Venice, discovering its unique blend of history, art, and everyday life.

From the grandeur of Piazza San Marco to the quieter canals and hidden streets, the visit offered a meaningful opportunity to experience the city beyond the classroom. Walking through its calli and across its historic bridges, students engaged with a place where culture, architecture, and tradition meet at every corner.

Learning becomes deeper when it is experienced 🩷

Last weekend CCI students explored Rome!
During the visits they had the opportunity to see communication at work, applied in many contexts and forms. From the ancient Roman symbols, to the Catholic ones; from the history of Italian cinema cinema with a cool visit to the Cinecittà studios, to contemporary art and photography with Vivian Maier exhibition. It was fun and meaningful. Stay tuned for other wonderful adventures (and selfies)! 🥰

For the last project of Fall 2025 creative freedom has been exercised by .fashionschool Florence students within clearly defined parameters of research, guided by inspiration drawn from artists engaged with environmental and social issues. Artists who, through their practice, critically address sustainability and act as voices of ethical, social, and ecological awareness. The garments made for the 'Manteco Sustainable award' have been deliberately unconventional, marked by strong conceptual depth and expressive power.
Sustainability has been articulated through the conceptual framework, within which students have undertaken a creative reinterpretation of premium textiles, integrating them with reclaimed and repurposed materials to generate new narratives of value, responsibility, and transformation.

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the project with enthusiasm, and a big shout out to Keegan Brown, the award winner!
