Maddalena ha trent’anni, uno spirito indipendente e una vecchia casa della nonna sulle colline sopra Rimini. Per mantenersi lavora come addetta alle pulizie: al mattino per una cooperativa, al pomeriggio nelle case di alcune famiglie.

È proprio entrando nelle case degli altri che Maddalena incontra un piccolo universo di personaggi curiosi e spesso fuori dagli schemi.

Ci sono i coniugi Rettondini, ossessionati dalla paura di essere derubati e convinti di essere continuamente osservati dai ladri. C’è un anziano ex assistente di laboratorio che, una volta in pensione, dedica il suo tempo a inventare storie per dare una vita ai personaggi minori dei film.

E poi c’è il ciclista.

Di lui non sappiamo quasi nulla. Non lo vediamo mai. Sappiamo soltanto che è sportivo, magro e solo. Una presenza misteriosa che rimane sullo sfondo della storia e che, proprio per questo, incuriosisce.

Casa dopo casa, Maddalena ci accompagna nel suo mondo con ironia e leggerezza: la famiglia bigotta, un fratello che ha scelto di vivere come un eremita, una nonna affettuosa, clienti bizzarri e storie d’amore che appartengono al passato… o forse ancora al futuro.

E in mezzo a tutto questo, il ciclista resta una figura da scoprire.

Una storia ambientata sulle colline riminesi, fatta di incontri, piccoli misteri e personaggi che sembrano nascondere sempre qualcosa. E per chi ama la bicicletta, una curiosità in più: provare a capire chi sia davvero quell’uomo che pedala, solo e silenzioso, tra le strade di questo territorio.

Maddalena is thirty, fiercely independent, and lives in her grandmother’s old house in the hills above Rimini. To make a living, she works as a cleaner: in the mornings for a service cooperative, and in the afternoons for a select group of families.

Going from house to house, Maddalena enters a small world populated by curious and often eccentric characters.

There are the Rettondini couple, terrified of being robbed and convinced that thieves are constantly watching them. Then there is a retired laboratory assistant who spends his days inventing stories to give a life and dignity to the minor characters in films.

And then there is the cyclist.

We know almost nothing about him. We never see him. We only know that he is athletic, thin and alone. A mysterious presence in the background of the story who, precisely because so little is known about him, becomes impossible not to wonder about.

With irony and lightness, Maddalena takes us into her world: her conservative family, a brother who has chosen to live like a hermit, a loving grandmother, eccentric clients and love stories that may belong to the past… or perhaps to the future.

And somewhere in the middle of it all, the cyclist remains a mystery to be uncovered.

A story set in the hills around Rimini, filled with encounters, small mysteries and characters who always seem to be hiding something. And for anyone who loves cycling, there is an extra reason to read it: to discover who the man really is, riding alone and silently along the roads of this beautiful corner of Italy.

Il 15 ottobre 2026 abbiamo partecipato alla seconda edizione dell’𝙄𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙮 𝘽𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙃𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙨 𝘿𝙖𝙮, l’appuntamento dedicato all’ospitalità dei cicloturisti e al futuro del turismo in bicicletta, organizzato nell’ambito di 𝙏𝙏𝙂 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙡 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 alla Fiera di Rimini.
Una giornata preziosa per incontrare professionisti del settore, condividere esperienze e approfondire i cambiamenti che stanno trasformando il mondo del cicloturismo.

L’evento è stato organizzato magistralmente da 𝙄𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙮 𝘽𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙃𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙨, il consorzio di riferimento per l’ospitalità bike in Italia, che stagione dopo stagione accompagna gli albergatori nel fantastico mondo del cicloturismo. Attraverso formazione, confronto, condivisione di esperienze e nuove opportunità di collaborazione, Italy Bike Hotels supporta le strutture ricettive nella crescita e nell’evoluzione della propria offerta, aiutandole a comprendere le esigenze dei cicloturisti e ad affrontare le nuove sfide del mercato. Il programma della giornata ha affrontato alcuni dei temi più attuali per chi lavora nell’ospitalità bike.

𝘾𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝙂𝙚𝙢𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙤, ciclista, autore e organizzatore di viaggi per il mercato tedesco, ha approfondito l’evoluzione del cicloturismo e i diversi modi di vivere oggi una vacanza in bicicletta. Perché non esiste più un solo tipo di cicloturista: cambiano le aspettative, le motivazioni e le esperienze ricercate.

𝘼𝙣𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙖 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙖, giornalista e rappresentante del dipartimento Cycling della Regione Emilia-Romagna, ha presentato l’esperienza dell’Emilia-Romagna come esempio di successo, evidenziando l’importanza della collaborazione tra territorio, offerta turistica e operatori.

𝙂𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙡𝙪𝙘𝙖 𝙏𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙞, Web Analyst di Area38, ha invece approfondito il ruolo dell’intelligenza artificiale, dei nuovi motori di ricerca e della multicanalità nel rendere le strutture ricettive più visibili e facilmente raggiungibili dai cicloturisti.

La giornata è proseguita con un confronto diretto tra albergatori, per condividere esperienze, strategie e buone pratiche maturate sul campo.

Anche noi dell' Alexander abbiamo preso parte al confronto, portando l’attenzione sulle esigenze dei cicloturisti stranieri e sull’importanza di saper accogliere ospiti provenienti da mercati e culture differenti.

Lavorare con il turismo internazionale significa comprendere aspettative, abitudini e necessità specifiche, offrendo servizi adeguati e un’esperienza che vada oltre il semplice soggiorno in hotel.

On 15 October 2026, we took part in the second edition of 𝙄𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙮 𝘽𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙃𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙨 𝘿𝙖𝙮, an event dedicated to cycling tourism, bike hospitality and the future of cycling holidays. The event was held at 𝙏𝙏𝙂 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙡 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 at Rimini Expo Centre.

It was a valuable opportunity to meet industry professionals, exchange experiences and explore the changes shaping the cycling tourism market.

The event was expertly organised by 𝙄𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙮 𝘽𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙃𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙨, Italy’s leading consortium dedicated to bike hospitality, which season after season guides hoteliers through the exciting world of cycling tourism. There is no longer just one type of cycling tourist: expectations, motivations and travel preferences are becoming increasingly diverse.

𝘼𝙣𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙖 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙖, journalist and member of the Cycling Department of the Emilia-Romagna Region, presented Emilia-Romagna as a successful example of cycling tourism development, highlighting the importance of cooperation between destinations, tourism products and local businesses.

𝙂𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙡𝙪𝙘𝙖 𝙏𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙞, Web Analyst at Area38, focused on artificial intelligence, new search engines and multichannel strategies, explaining how accommodation providers can improve their online visibility and make it easier for cycling tourists to find and choose the right hotel.

The event also included an open discussion among hoteliers, offering an opportunity to share practical experiences, strategies and best practices.

Una bicicletta occupa molto meno spazio di un’auto. Sembra una considerazione ovvia, ma nel traffico quotidiano è facile dimenticarlo. Nel 2014, a Riga, un gruppo di ciclisti decise di renderlo impossibile da ignorare.

Il 22 settembre 2014, in occasione della Giornata senza auto, i ciclisti del gruppo Let’s Bike It attraversarono le strade della capitale lettone con una struttura davvero particolare: leggere intelaiature colorate fissate intorno alle biciclette, costruite per riprodurre esattamente – o quasi – l’ingombro di un’automobile.

Il risultato era sorprendente.

Dove normalmente vedevamo una bicicletta e una sola persona, improvvisamente compariva il profilo di un’auto. Le aste si allargavano ben oltre il manubrio e le ruote, occupando uno spazio molto maggiore rispetto a quello realmente necessario al ciclista.

Non servivano statistiche, grafici o lunghi discorsi: bastava guardare la strada.

Una persona in bicicletta occupa una frazione dello spazio necessario a un’automobile per trasportare una sola persona.

Il confronto diventava così fisico e immediatamente comprensibile. Le biciclette continuavano a muoversi come biciclette, ma il loro “ingombro virtuale” mostrava quanto spazio viene normalmente destinato alle automobili nelle nostre città.

L'iniziativa faceva parte della Settimana europea della mobilità (European Mobility Week), che nel 2014 si svolse dal 16 al 22 settembre e invitò città e cittadini europei a riflettere su come rendere gli spostamenti quotidiani più sostenibili e gli spazi urbani più vivibili.

L'esperimento di Riga raccontava qualcosa che noi ciclisti conosciamo bene: pedalare non significa semplicemente scegliere un mezzo di trasporto diverso. Significa anche occupare, vivere e percepire la città in modo diverso.

In bicicletta ci si muove con maggiore libertà, si attraversano le strade a una velocità più umana e si entra in contatto diretto con l'ambiente circostante.

E soprattutto, quando tante persone scelgono la bicicletta, cambia anche il modo in cui immaginiamo lo spazio urbano.

Una fotografia che continua a far riflettere
A distanza di anni, quelle biciclette circondate da grandi strutture colorate restano un'immagine efficace perché raccontano una questione ancora attuale: quanto spazio vogliamo dedicare alle persone e quanto ai veicoli?

La dimostrazione di Riga fu citata anche nel rapporto ufficiale della European Mobility Week 2014 tra gli esempi creativi della campagna, proprio per il modo originale con cui mostrava la differenza di spazio occupato da auto e biciclette.

Forse il messaggio più interessante è proprio questo: per capire quanto spazio occupa un’auto, a volte basta metterle una bicicletta accanto.

E quando si guarda la strada da questa prospettiva, la domanda cambia.

A bicycle takes up far less space than a car. It sounds obvious, but in everyday traffic it is surprisingly easy to forget. In 2014, a group of cyclists in Riga found a very simple – and very visual – way to remind everyone.

On 22 September 2014, during Car-Free Day, cyclists from Let’s Bike It took to the streets of the Latvian capital with an unusual addition to their bikes: lightweight, colourful frames attached around the bicycles and designed to reproduce the footprint of a car.

The result was striking.
Instead of seeing a bicycle carrying one person, passers-by suddenly saw the outline of a car. The lightweight structures extended far beyond the width of the bikes, making the difference in space immediately visible.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙞𝙩𝙨 𝙨𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙩𝙮.

There were no complicated statistics or lengthy explanations. You could simply see the difference.

One person travelling by bicycle requires only a fraction of the space needed by a car carrying a single occupant.

By physically reproducing the size of a car around a bicycle, Let’s Bike It turned an abstract idea into something everyone could understand at a glance.

The demonstration was part of European Mobility Week 2014, held from 16 to 22 September, an annual European campaign encouraging cities and citizens to explore more sustainable ways of moving around and to rethink how urban space is used.

Seeing the city from a bicycle
The Riga experiment also highlighted something cyclists know very well: cycling is not simply about choosing a different means of transport. It is about experiencing the city differently.

On a bicycle, distances feel different, streets are experienced at a more human scale, and the relationship with the surrounding environment becomes much more direct.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗼.

For Let’s Bike It, a simple ride through Riga therefore became something much bigger: a moving demonstration of how much space different forms of transport actually require.

An image that still makes us think
Years later, the image of cyclists surrounded by colourful car-sized frames remains remarkably effective because the question is still relevant:

How much space should our cities give to vehicles – and how much should they give back to people?

The Riga demonstration was also highlighted in the official European Mobility Week 2014 report as one of the campaign’s creative examples, thanks to its original way of illustrating the difference between the space occupied by cars and bicycles.

Perhaps that is what makes the idea so memorable.

Sometimes, to understand how much space a car needs, all you have to do is put a bicycle inside its footprint.

Dal 26 giugno 1819, data del brevetto della prima bicicletta, questo straordinario mezzo ha attraversato più di due secoli senza perdere il suo fascino. Da semplice mezzo di trasporto è diventata simbolo di libertà, sport, innovazione e design.

La bicicletta è da sempre un perfetto incontro tra tecnologia e forza umana. Un oggetto capace di evolversi continuamente, mantenendo però intatta la sua essenza: due ruote, un telaio e la forza di chi pedala.

Il libro “Raggi di design” racconta proprio questa evoluzione attraverso 50 biciclette iconiche, scelte dalla Carosini Collection, una collezione di circa 200 esemplari.

Ogni modello racconta una parte della storia della bicicletta: nuovi materiali, soluzioni tecniche innovative, forme diventate leggendarie e idee nate dall’ingegno di progettisti e inventori visionari. Ma anche grandi imprese sportive e campioni che hanno contribuito a trasformare alcune biciclette in vere icone.

Le splendide fotografie del libro ne mettono in risalto ogni dettaglio, mentre le schede raccontano la storia dei marchi, le curiosità, le innovazioni e i successi sportivi legati a ciascun modello.

Le e-bike stanno diventando molto più di un'alternativa alla bicicletta tradizionale. Sono sempre più utilizzate come un vero mezzo di trasporto e possono aiutare a lasciare l'auto a casa.

Una recente meta-analisi di dieci studi, condotti principalmente nel Nord Europa, ha analizzato l'effetto dell'utilizzo delle e-bike sulla mobilità quotidiana.

Il risultato è interessante: chi ha a disposizione una e-bike tende a usare meno l'auto e pedalare di più.

🚲 Meno auto, più bici
Secondo la ricerca, gli utenti delle e-bike percorrono ogni giorno in auto circa 2,4 km in meno, con una riduzione complessiva di circa il 10% dell'utilizzo dell'auto.

Allo stesso tempo, percorrono circa 5 km in più al giorno in bicicletta rispetto a quanto facevano precedentemente con una bici tradizionale.

Quindi la e-bike non sostituisce semplicemente la bicicletta muscolare: può anche sostituire alcuni spostamenti che altrimenti sarebbero stati fatti in auto.

⚡ Superare gli ostacoli
Il motivo è semplice: l'assistenza elettrica rende la pedalata più facile.

Troppo lontano? Troppa salita? Troppa fatica?

Con una e-bike questi ostacoli diventano molto più gestibili.

E la bicicletta diventa così un'opzione non solo per i ciclisti esperti, ma anche per chi normalmente non sceglierebbe la bici per gli spostamenti quotidiani.

La ricerca ha inoltre registrato un aumento del 26% nell'utilizzo delle e-bike tra le persone che ne avevano a disposizione.

🌱 Un piccolo cambiamento, un grande effetto
Naturalmente una e-bike non può sostituire ogni spostamento in auto. E non è questo il punto.

Ma se per andare al lavoro, fare la spesa, raggiungere la stazione o andare al mare possiamo scegliere la bici invece dell'auto, tanti piccoli cambiamenti possono fare la differenza.

Forse quindi la domanda non è: “Una e-bike può sostituire l'auto?”

ma: “Quanti spostamenti in auto potremmo sostituire con una e-bike?”
A volte, due ruote sono davvero sufficienti.

E-bikes are becoming more than just an alternative to traditional bicycles. They are increasingly being used as a practical way to move around — and to leave the car at home.

A recent meta-analysis of ten studies, mainly carried out in Northern Europe, looked at how access to an e-bike affects everyday mobility.

The results are interesting: people with an e-bike tend to use their cars less and cycle more.

🚲 Less car, more bike
According to the research, e-bike users reduced their daily car travel by around 2.4 km, corresponding to a reduction of approximately 10% in car use.

At the same time, they travelled around 5 km more per day by bike than they had previously done on a traditional bicycle.

So e-bikes aren't simply replacing regular bikes. They can also replace some journeys that might otherwise have been made by car.

⚡ Removing the barriers
One of the reasons is simple: electric assistance makes cycling easier.

Too far? Too hilly? Too tiring?
An e-bike can make those obstacles much less significant.

And that means cycling becomes an option not only for experienced cyclists, but also for people who might not normally choose a bike for their everyday journeys.

The study also found a 26% increase in e-bike use among people who had access to one.

🌱 A small change with a bigger impact
Of course, an e-bike won't replace every car journey — and it doesn't need to.

But if a trip to work, the shops, the train station or the beach can be made by bike instead of by car, the impact adds up.

The question, perhaps, isn't: “Can an e-bike replace a car?”

but rather: “How many car journeys could we replace with an e-bike?”
Sometimes, two wheels really are enough.
