At Palazzo Daniele, art is not an addition to the space, but part of its identity — contemporary works unfolding within the layers of the palazzo’s history.

This work by South African artist Alexandra Zarah Karakashian is made using used engine oil, a material that runs through her practice as both medium and subject. Its deep, shifting surfaces reflect on memory, displacement and the relationship between people, land and natural resources.

Set against the palazzo’s original floor, the work becomes part of a quiet dialogue between past and present.
