Everyone has a version of this dream.

Ours was a house in Tuscany. Three summers of searching, one house we lost to a quicker buyer, and then a last viewing on a May morning that changed everything. That house is Podere L’Aquila, in the area of Gaiole in Chianti, looking towards Siena.

We bought this stone house in May 2023. Then we filmed the renovation.

Seven months of demolition, dust and decisions. Today it’s the upper house of Podere L’Aquila, our estate with eleven apartments near Gaiole in Chianti. In the quieter months this is where we cook dinner for our guests.

The gravel begins where our terrace ends. Then it’s 70.5 km straight into Chianti.

Every October, Gaiole in Chianti fills with steel frames and wool jerseys for L’Eroica. The roads the ride celebrates are the ones outside our door: gravel climbs, vineyard lanes, forest tracks that bring you home. You can ride them any week of the year.

That loop carries 1,414 metres of climbing, and the fastest descent touches 46 km/h. Route and notes on the blog.

This was our first retreat of its kind, created together with and our friends and Vanni of . It turned out better than any of us had hoped.

Slow breakfasts that drifted towards noon.
Massages on the terrace, with the valley below and the sun going down.
An afternoon in medieval San Gusme, as guests of Lorenzo and Daniela.
Castello di Brolio, where the story of Chianti Classico began.
And every evening, one long table under the pergola.

Thank you, ladies, for the energy you brought. And thank you, Małgorzata, Lorenzo and Daniela, for making it work from the very first time.
