The transition between summer and autumn is a wonderful time, the colors change, becoming more mature, telling the story of the seasons, the temperatures are warm during the day and cool in the evening, and the pool is a delight in the enchantment of nature.

🍂 Why we love autumn in Chianti

Summer may get most of the attention, but autumn is one of our favourite times of year here.

As the grape harvest draws to a close, the olive harvest begins, and local menus fill with the delicious produce we associate most with Tuscany: porcini mushrooms, truffles, wild boar, hearty soups and and so much more.

At Casalone, it’s also time to harvest our own olives and turn them into extra virgin olive oil. We leave a bottle for every guest to enjoy during their stay.

The weather can still be beautifully mild, the villages and towns are quieter, and there are food festivals and local events happening throughout the region. It’s a lovely time to experience a different side of Chianti.

We’ve put together some of our favourite things about visiting at this time of year, including what to eat, where to go and a few useful tips for an autumn stay.

🍷 A w**e festival worth planning your trip around…

If you love Chianti and the idea of discovering delicious w**es in a beautiful Tuscan piazza, put Expo del Chianti Classico in Greve in Chianti on your list.

Held over four days each year, the Expo is one of Chianti's largest w**e festivals, bringing together more than 60 Chianti Classico producers, local food, olive oil, live music, art and other cultural events.

One of our guests, Nigel, enjoyed it so much fun that he recently shared his experience with us. 🍇

And the best bit? From Casalone, you can walk into Greve, enjoy yourself without worrying about driving, and arrange a taxi home afterwards.

September is also a fantastic time to visit Chianti: cooler days are perfect for walking and cycling, while it's still warm enough to enjoy the swimming pool.

the mountains in the distance are still white with snow, but today the temperature is splendid and spring is all around us: in the flowers, in the tender leaves and in the taste of the air.
