A cold Sunday afternoon spent preparing my grandma’s agnolotti🌨❄️😍 An old tradition passed through generations in my family together with the pasta machine and cutter that belonged to my grand grandma😍
I can’t wait to cook again with you all!

"Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as it lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature - the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter." (Rachel Carson, Silent Spring)

Here's to a more hopeful and brighter 2021.

“And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear ones
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fears”
J. Lennon

With these words in mind I wish you a peaceful and healthy Christmas and New Year full of serenity and joy. Hopefully soon we will be able to travel and hug, love and be together again ❤️⭐️🎄

Today is a special day. Italy celebrates its Liberation Day, also known as the Anniversary of the Liberation, Anniversary of the Resistance, or simply April 25th. Today we commemorate the end of the Italian Civil War and the end of N**i occupation of the country during World War II.

Usually marching bands, music concerts, food festivals, political rallies, and other public gatherings take place in many places in Italy. But this year we will not be able to gather to celebrate this day. Our freedom is limited and never as before we appreciate its true value. And as our "partisan" President Sandro Pertini said "always fight for freedom, for peace, for social justice. Freedom without social justice is only a fragile conquest, which for many translates in the freedom to die of hunger".

To celebrate this day under lockdown, people will sing “Bella ciao” from their balconies at 3 pm instead of gathering in the squares. The song “Bella Ciao” is the anthem of the Italian resistance movement and today reminds listeners of the sacrifices made by those fighters. But “Bella ciao” has been sang for 75 years in revolutions and protests in every corner of the world, not only in Italy. The universality of this song is given by the fundamental values it conveys: freedom, peace, solidarity. “Bella ciao” is the song of every human being who believes in these two concepts: republic and democracy.

Here are various versions of this powerful song. One from local Tuscan artists: https://youtu.be/lejoQUP0-KQ; the original version and the English text, if you are interested: https://youtu.be/Lqs2oIBFPxI; and finally the beautiful version of Tom Waits & Marc Ribot, very faithful to the original partisan song: https://youtu.be/n_pWpW4JlrM

Happy Liberation Day, a far from the squares, but always close to the memory. With deep gratitude and respect, today we want to celebrate Liberty, but above all the courage of those who fought to obtain it.

Lockdown - Day #34
This morning I came across this wonderful poem by Jan Richardson and I thought I had to share with you all. It’s perfect for this moment and to inspire us.

How the Light Comes

I cannot tell you
how the light comes.

What I know
is that it is more ancient
than imagining.
That it travels
across an astounding expanse
to reach us.

That it loves
searching out
what is hidden
what is lost
what is forgotten
or in peril
or in pain.

That it has a fondness
for the body
for finding its way
toward flesh
for tracing the edges
of form
for shining forth
through the eye,
the hand,
the heart.

I cannot tell you
how the light comes,
but that it does.
That it will.
That it works its way
into the deepest dark
that enfolds you,
though it may seem
long ages in coming
or arrive in a shape
you did not foresee.

And so
may we this day
turn ourselves towards it.
May we lift our faces
to let it find us.
May we bed our bodies
to follow the arc it makes.
May we open
and open more
and open still
to the blessed light
that comes.

Happy Easter!!!

Ps for the vegetarian (and not) this is an idea for your lunch and it’s definitely my ultimate comfort food😋😍

Lockdown - Day #33
I’ve been silent for a while but I needed not only to social distancing but also media and social media distancing for a while. Too many news.. real or fake.. good or bad.. being connected through phone or chats is important but sometimes overwhelming and a form of obsession.. so I took a break from all the technology just checking once a day the work emails and reading every morning a couple of newspapers.. it was restoring.. my mind is more clear and calm.. and now I’m ready to face new challenges 😃
All my best wishes to all of you for a Happy Easter. May it be a real moment of rebirth for all the world ❤️❤️

Ps. What are you preparing for the Easter lunch?? I’m going to have lamb in fricassee with artichokes and you knows? I have just received this beautiful basket of vegetables for a wonderful friends so may be something more will come out😍😍 thanks Lara 😘😘😘😘

Lockdown - Day #17
Today is cloudy, chilly with a little bit of rain so what is better than spending the day in front of the fireplace, with a blanket and a good book?
Usually we are too busy to spend a day like this and reading is something we do before sleeping.. just few pages a day.. but today no.. and I’m grateful for the time I could dedicate to reading.
Normality, now, is knowing how to reinvent yourself in a new time, which leaves us confused and destabilized but which offers us many opportunities. It is an opportunity to start or resume many activities, such as reading.
While you are reading you travel, you fall in love, you are indignant, you become nostalgic, curious, you cry, you laugh. While reading you learn that sometimes you can come across a discovery even if you weren't looking for it. We discover and find old fairy tales that bring back to childhood and that make us smile while we seek our happy ending.
What we are all waiting for and which, if we stay united, will come soon.

Lockdown - Days #16
Yesterday we had some issue with the internet connection so I couldn’t post.. but I’m fine and healthy. Thanks to everyone writing me❤️❤️
Today I had to go to the hospital for my monthly vaccine against wasps and hornets 🐝 and I had to go to Florence realizing that we ! The silence of the city is deafening.. the hospital was desert.. a lot of checks to get in but then you can see only doctors and nurses.. still there, working incredible hours for us.. fighting this war with limited resources but great strength and love.
So today I’m grateful for them.. and all the people that are working for our health and to ensure us the best care possible! Thanks 🙏🏻 ❤️

And please, let’s help them as we can: stay at home!
