A leap of faith…
We delved into the unknown… yet somehow it still feels like home.

As a Maltese living in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, seeing our story now featured in Design & decor — a magazine so many Maltese households know — brought everything full circle. Malta and Tuscany, side by side on glossy pages… our past and present meeting in the most beautiful way.

Here at our agriturismo, mornings begin slowly, with the scent of the countryside drifting through the windows. Evenings end with golden light stretching across the olive trees. And in between, there’s space — real space — to breathe, to reconnect, to simply be.

Guests often tell us that from the moment they arrive, they feel at home. Maybe it’s the Maltese warmth we carry with us. Maybe it’s the tranquillità of the Maremma. Maybe it’s both.

English lawns may look perfect, but at Agriturismo Lo Scalandrino we prefer a lawn that lives.

Our wild clover carpet stays green with minimal water, feeds the soil naturally, and offers tiny blossoms that support bees and other pollinators. It’s beautiful in its own authentic way — and far better for the land we care for.

Being an organic farm means respecting nature at every step, and our clover lawn is just one of the ways we keep our footprint light.

As the days grow longer and the sunshine lingers, our outdoor barbecue area is getting a beautiful upgrade.

Whether you fire up the grill under the warm daylight with the gentle sea breeze drifting in from Marina di Alberese, or unwind after sunset beneath a star‑studded sky to the sound of night birds and wildlife rustling through the olive groves, one thing is certain — relaxation comes naturally here.

A slow, grey Sunday morning here at the Agriturismo Lo Scalandrino

The oven has been warm since early hours, filling the house with the scent of freshly baked bread. On the table: our own golden olive oil, bright lemons from the trees, and tender broad beans just picked from the garden.

Simple things, made with care, straight from the land to our table.

Spring is in the air, and here in the Maremma the countryside is coming alive again. After winter’s quiet slumber, nature is bursting into life all around us — from fruit trees both old and newly planted, to the vegetable patch and our broad beans stretching towards the sun. Pretty wildflowers are appearing in the fields, and the gentle rolling hay meadows surrounding us are slowly changing colour.
The browns and yellows of winter are giving way to a beautiful tapestry of fresh greens — a truly special moment in the Tuscan countryside.
It’s the perfect time to slow down, breathe deeply, and spend a few peaceful days immersed in nature with us at Lo Scalandrino.
