The History of Peccioli ✍️

Ancient Origins: The roots of Peccioli date back to the Neolithic period, with Etruscan settlements beginning in the early first millennium BC. The Arno River marked the boundary between the Ligurians and the Etruscans, and Peccioli was part of the Etruscan territory of Volterra.

Roman Era: In the 3rd century BC, Peccioli came under Roman rule, with archaeological finds at the Ortaglia site attesting to its connection with Volterra.

Medieval Period: In the 13th century, Peccioli was involved in the conflicts between Guelphs and Ghibellines, experiencing episodes of political instability. In 1362, the Florentines conquered the castle of Peccioli, bringing the city under their control in 1406.

Renaissance and Medici Period: In the 15th century, Peccioli suffered from plundering and rebellions, but under Lorenzo the Magnificent, it underwent administrative reorganization. In the 17th century, under Medici rule, it enjoyed a period of political stability and land reclamation projects.

Modern and Contemporary Period: Since the Unification of Italy, Peccioli has become a municipality encompassing several surrounding territories. During the Fascist era, municipal councils were suppressed and Podestà were reintroduced. During World War II, Peccioli suffered damage and was liberated by American troops on July 14, 1944.

Scopriamo Fabbrica di Peccioli! ⛪

La pieve di Santa Maria dell'Assunta è un esempio di architettura romanica nella regione della Valdera. La sua storia risale almeno al 1017, ma l'edificio attuale è principalmente del XII secolo e è stato ben conservato nonostante varie modifiche nel 1405, nel XVIII secolo e nel 1832, che hanno aggiunto volte, modificato l'abside e rialzato la struttura. Nel 1959 è stato restaurato il paramento esterno in pietra. All'interno, ci sono tre navate separate da colonne e pilastri alternati. La chiesa ospita importanti opere d'arte, tra cui sculture in terracotta smaltata di Benedetto Buglioni e una statua di sant'Antonio Abate di Luca della Robbia. Mentioned in a document from 1017, the current structure, mostly from the 12th century, has survived various renovations in 1405, the 18th century, and 1832, which added vaults and altered the apse. In 1959, the stone facade was restored. Inside, it features three naves separated by columns and pillars. The church holds valuable artworks, including glazed terracotta sculptures by Benedetto Buglioni and a statue of Saint Anthony Abbot by Luca della Robbia. Filippino Lippi painted a panel of the Infant Jesus playing with John the Baptist and other saints, while Paolo Guidotti created a 17th-century panel of the Last Supper.

Oggi vi raccontiamo della Ca****la di San Rocco, situata a Fabbrica di Peccioli ⛪️

In Via V. Veneto si trova il Santuario della Madonna del Latte, noto anche come ca****la dei Santi Rocco e Sebastiano.
Questo santuario ospita una scultura quattrocentesca della Madonna che allatta Gesù Bambino, venerata dai residenti, pregata per avere figli e proteggere il paese durante i temporali e la pandemia di Covid-19.
Recentemente, la ca****la è stata abbellita con un nuovo copri altare in ferro battuto e il restauro degli affreschi.

In Via V. Veneto stands the Sanctuary of Madonna del Latte, also known as the Chapel of Saints Rocco and Sebastian. This sanctuary houses a fifteenth-century sculpture of Madonna breastfeeding Baby Jesus, revered by residents, prayed to for children, and to protect the country during thunderstorms and the Covid-19 pandemic. Recently, the chapel has been embellished with a new wrought iron altar cover and the restoration of frescoes.

Certaldo è un affascinante borgo medievale situato in Toscana, noto per essere la città natale di Giovanni Boccaccio, celebre autore del Decameron.
