Lo sapevi che a pochi minuti dal nostro hotel si trova uno dei castelli più affascinanti delle Dolomiti? 🏰
Il Castello di Andraz sorge su un enorme masso glaciale, in posizione dominante su Livinallongo del Col di Lana. Da lì si controllavano tutte le vie delle Dolomiti: verso Belluno, Bressanone, Cortina.
Le sue origini risalgono all'anno 1000. Per secoli fu presidio militare dei vescovi-conti di Bressanone, a guardia delle miniere del Fursil che, ricche di ferro e legno, erano le risorse più contese dell'epoca.
Ma la storia più sorprendente è un'altra.
Nelle viscere del Monte Pore si dice vivesse la Delibana: una fanciulla prescelta, abbandonata per sette anni nelle miniere insieme ai Morkies, il popolo dei nani minatori. Secondo lo studioso Giuliano Palmieri, questa leggenda ladina sarebbe l'origine di Biancaneve, portata in Germania dai minatori del Fursil, avrebbe ispirato i fratelli Grimm.
🏔 Le sette montagne di vetro? I ghiacciai alpini. I sette nani? I Morkies. Il castello della regina gelosa? Andraz.
Tra il 1457 e il 1460 ospitò anche Nicolò Cusano, filosofo e Vescovo di Bressanone, che lo scelse come rifugio nei momenti di tensione politica. Nel 1484 un incendio lo distrusse quasi completamente, ma fu ricostruito in soli quattro anni.
Dopo Napoleone, p***e ogni funzione strategica: nel 1851 fu venduto e spogliato del tetto. Durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale fu persino bombardato dalle postazioni austriache del Col di Lana.💣
Eppure è ancora lì. Silenzioso, affascinante, a vegliare sulla valle.

🏰 Did you know that one of the most fascinating castles in the Dolomites is just a few minutes from here?
Andraz Castle stands on a massive glacial boulder, in a commanding position over Livinallongo del Col di Lana - with views reaching towards Belluno, Bressanone and Cortina.
Its origins date back to the year 1000. For centuries it served as a military stronghold for the prince-bishops of Bressanone, guarding the Fursil mines - rich in iron and timber, the most contested resources of the age.
But the most surprising part of its story is something else entirely.
It was said that deep inside Monte Pore there lived the Delibana: a chosen maiden, left for seven years in the mines alongside the Morkies, the dwarf miners.
It was believed that her sacrifice kept the iron vein alive.
According to scholar Giuliano Palmieri, this Ladin legend is thought to be the origin of Snow White, carried to Germany by the Fursil miners and later collected by the Brothers Grimm.
🏔 The seven glass mountains? The Alpine glaciers. The seven dwarfs? The Morkies. The jealous queen's castle? Andraz.
Between 1457 and 1460 the castle also hosted Nicolò Cusano - philosopher and Bishop of Bressanone - who chose it as a safe refuge during times of political tension. In 1484 a devastating fire destroyed much of the structure, but it was rebuilt in just four years.
After Napoleon it lost every strategic purpose: in 1851 it was sold and stripped of its roof. During the First World War it was even shelled by Austrian positions on the Col di Lana.💣
And yet it's still there: silent, captivating, watching over the valley.
