Tra ottobre e novembre, nella Valle d'Itria succede qualcosa che va avanti da generazioni! Si, parliamo proprio della Raccolta delle Olive.
Nei campi intorno a noi, muretti a secco e ulivi centenari si preparano al momento più importante dell'anno agricolo. Le reti stese a terra, il rumore degli abbacchiatori, il profumo pungente dell'olio appena franto.
Qui è il vero cambio di stagione.
La Puglia produce più olio di ogni altra regione italiana, con oltre 60 milioni di ulivi e cinque etichette DOP, sinonimo di qualità e legame autentico con il territorio. L'olio che nasce in questi giorni si chiama Olio Nuovo e ha un profumo intenso, leggermente piccante, con un pizzico di quel verde acceso che dura solo poche settimane.
Le masserie e i piccoli frantoi della zona aprono le porte a chi vuole vedere da vicino la spremitura, spesso con assaggio del primo olio dell'annata direttamente sul pane.

Between October and November, something happens in the Itria Valley that has been going on for generations: the Olive Harvest.
In the fields around us, drystone walls and centuries-old olive trees get ready for the most important moment of the agricultural year. The nets spread on the ground, the sound of the harvesters, the sharp scent of freshly pressed oil.
Here, this is the real change of season.
Puglia produces more olive oil than any other Italian region, with over 60 mln olive trees and five DOP labels, a mark of quality and a genuine bond with the land. The oil made in these days is called new oil: intense, slightly peppery, with that bright green colour that lasts only a few weeks.
The masserie and small mills open their doors to those who want to see the pressing up close, often with a taste of the season's first oil straight on bread.
