Gola del Furlo in the Marche region is a gorge where the Candigliano river passes through a narrow gap in the Monte Pietralata ridge, with sheer walls of limestone rising 200 metres above the river.

The ancient Via Flaminia road passes through the gorge and a tunnel cut through the rock by Emperor Vespasian in 77 CE is still visible alongside the modern road.

The gorge is freely accessible by road and walking paths along the river bank.

Those who walk the gorge trail in spring when the water is high and golden eagles are nesting in the cliff faces above describe it as the most dramatic gorge walk available in central Italy and say the combination of the geological spectacle and the ancient engineering of the Roman road is completely extraordinary.
