Palazzo Bonventre

The Bonventre family's building is located In Via Mario Nuccio, the street that leads to the arcades of Marsala Harbor, just outside the town historic centre. It is a lovely and unique building which stands beautifully in its neo-Liberty style. On the stone ground floor there is the entrance which leads to the elegant space where the stairs and the solid wooden balcony are. The ground floor holds

up the first and second floors decorated with sienna earth colored majolica tiles and overlooking Via Mario Nuccio through their large glass windows and arrow shaped iron balconies. The building shows a clear evidence of the revivalist neo-Liberty architecture and of some buildings planned by the architects Gabetti and Isola. Neo-Liberty was born in Italy in the fifties as an opposition to the rationalist and organic architectures . The neo-Liberty came to light in Torino thanks to the first works of Roberto Gabetti and Aimaro Isola, in Milano and Novara thanks to Guido Cannella of the studio BBPR and the associated architects Vittorio Gregatti, Ludovico Meneghetti and Giotto Stoppino. The movement was supported by the magazine Casabella-Continuità which was edited by Ernesto Nathan Rogers during those years. A supporter of the neo-Liberty principles, which may be seen in the D'Orsay Museum project, was Gal Aulenti. Our building, today a glamorous B&B appreciated as a cultural residence and an evidence of the fifties architecture, is therefore to be taken in duly consideration. It is a true sign of the cultural internationality of the town of Marsala.
