La Fontana del Gigante, situata a Mergellina, Napoli, è un’imponente opera scultorea realizzata da Pietro Bernini e Michelangelo Naccherino nel XVII secolo. La fontana prende il nome dalla grande statua del gigante, che sorregge una conchiglia da cui sgorga l’acqua. Il gigante rappresenta un simbolo di forza e potenza, evocando la maestosità del mare e della natura. Questa fontana è una delle opere più importanti del periodo barocco a Napoli e si trova in una posizione panoramica che offre una vista spettacolare sulla costa.

L’opera fu commissionata per abbellire la zona di Mergellina e integrare l’ambiente marittimo circostante. Sebbene non sia più attiva come un tempo, la Fontana del Gigante rimane un simbolo iconico della città, apprezzato per la sua grandiosità e il suo legame con la tradizione artistica napoletana.

The Fontana del Giagante, located in Mergellina, Naples, is an imposing sculptural work created by Pietro Bernini and Michelangelo Naccherino in the 17th century. The fountain is named after the large statue of a giant holding a shell from which water flows. The giant represents a symbol of strength and power, evoking the grandeur of the sea and nature. This fountain is one of the most important works of the Baroque period in Naples and is situated in a scenic location with a spectacular view of the coastline.

The work was commissioned to beautify the Mergellina area and integrate with the surrounding maritime environment. Although it is no longer active as it once was, the Giant’s Fountain remains an iconic symbol of the city, admired for its grandeur and its connection to Neapolitan artistic tradition.

Santa Tecla, apostola di San Paolo, è una figura venerata nel cristianesimo primitivo, conosciuta per la sua dedizione alla fede e il suo martirio. Originaria di Iconio (Asia Minore), fu convertita dal predicatore Paolo e scelse di vivere in castità, rifiutando il matrimonio con il suo promesso sposo. Per questo motivo, fu perseguitata e condannata a morte, ma miracolosamente scampò a diverse minacce, diventando una delle prime martiri cristiane.

Nel presepe napoletano di San Gregorio Armeno, Santa Tecla è rappresentata tra i pastori, con in braccio Santo Stefano, simbolo del martirio. La sua figura accanto ai pastori, che tradizionalmente sono i testimoni della Natività, sottolinea il legame tra la nascita di Cristo e la testimonianza dei primi cristiani, impegnati nel diffondere il Vangelo anche a costo della vita. La sua presenza nel presepe rappresenta quindi la forza della fede che attraversa le generazioni e la continuità tra la nascita di Gesù e la testimonianza dei santi.

Saint Thecla, apostle of Saint Paul, is a revered figure in early Christianity, known for her dedication to the faith and martyrdom. Originally from Iconium (Asia Minor), she was converted by the preacher Paul and chose to live in chastity, rejecting marriage to her fiancé. For this, she was persecuted and sentenced to death but miraculously escaped several
threats, becoming one of the first Christian martyrs.

In the Neapolitan nativity scene of San Gregorio Armeno, Saint Thecla is depicted among the shepherds, holding Saint Stephen in her arms, symbolizing martyrdom. Her figure alongside the shepherds, traditionally witnesses of the Nativity, highlights the connection between Christ’s birth and the testimony of the first Christians, who spread the Gospel even at the cost of their lives. Her presence in the nativity scene thus represents the strength of faith that transcends generations, linking the birth of Jesus with the testimony of the saints.

La Guglia dell'Immacolata, situata in Piazza del Gesù a Napoli, è uno dei simboli più rappresentativi della città e della sua devozione religiosa. Eretto nel 1750, il monumento è una colonna alta circa 25 metri sormontata da una statua della Vergine Immacolata, realizzata in marmo. La guglia fu costruita come ringraziamento per la fine della terribile epidemia di peste che aveva colpito la città. La statua della Madonna, con il suo manto e la corona, è un segno di protezione divina per Napoli. Ogni 8 dicembre, in occasione della Festa dell’Immacolata Concezione, la tradizione vuole che i napoletani si riuniscano intorno alla guglia per rendere omaggio alla Vergine.

The Guglia dell’Immacolata, located in Piazza del Gesù in Naples, is one of the city's most iconic symbols of religious devotion. Erected in 1750, the monument consists of a column about 25 meters high, topped with a marble statue of the Immaculate Virgin. The spire was built as a thanksgiving for the end of a devastating plague that had struck the city.
