Carmela and Jacob called it "the perfect day." We think they captured it exactly :)

A slow breakfast in the sun, a walk into the mountains, and an evening that ends with a hot cup of tea and a few good biscuits. Nothing extraordinary, really; just a day given the time to be lived properly.

This is Henry, and during his stay he and Jack were inseparable. Every morning, he'd take him out for their walk through the village.

Jack's like that: always happy to head out with any guest who wants a bit of his company. He collects best friends one stay at a time.

The first thing you'll want to do is open the windows :)

That's the whole idea, really. No TV to turn on, nothing competing for your attention. Just a big frame of Dolomites, the quiet of Ortisei, and a morning that starts at its own pace.

Grateful to Carmela & Jacob for this one. They're a photographer-and-filmmaker couple from the US, here chasing the kind of trip that actually means something, and they caught exactly what a morning here feels like.

The best reward after a long day on the trails? Aperitivo on the terrace :)

This is Manuel's part of the day. Years as a maître and sommelier taught him that it's rarely about one big thing: it's the sum of small ones. So he picks the boards himself: local speck, good bread, a few things worth slowing down for, brought to your table without any fuss.

The wines follow the same idea: natural, chosen over ten years of tasting, not because it's fashionable. But honestly, the terrace, the late sun, and someone who's happy to tell you the story behind what's on your plate are half the pleasure.

Warm afternoons outside, cooler evenings inside. Either way, there's a spot with your name on it.

Bar's open 4 to 8 (we rest on Tuesdays).

Go beyond the usual viewpoints :) Above the trails, there's another side of these mountains, and you don't need to be an expert to reach it.

Catores, the mountain guides of Ortisei (climbing tradition since 1954), will take you up a first via ferrata or a gentle climb, shaped around you and always safe.

Alexandra goes out with them herself whenever she can, so this one's personal. Not the cheapest day of your trip... but often the one you remember longest.

If you ask Alexandra where to go, don't expect a printed list. She'll just sit down with you instead.

Usually it happens at breakfast, map or Komoot open, a quick chat about the weather, how your legs feel, what kind of day you're after. Then she figures out a route that actually fits you.

She knows the quieter side of Val Gardena pretty well: the meadows and paths most people walk past. Corners like the ones in these photos; the kind you'd probably never find on your own. ⛰️

That's the part she likes most: not telling you what to see, but helping you find your own thing.
