🏆 GOLD AWARD WINNER – JAPAN OLIVE OIL PRIZE 2026 🇯🇵🇮🇹

We are proud to announce that Olio della Pace by Il Fontanaro has been awarded the Gold Medal at the Japan Olive Oil Prize (JOOP) 2026, one of the most respected international competitions dedicated exclusively to extra virgin olive oil.

Held annually in Tokyo, the Japan Olive Oil Prize brings together expert judges who evaluate hundreds of olive oils from the world’s leading producing countries, recognizing excellence in quality, aroma, balance, authenticity, and craftsmanship.

Receiving a Gold Award is a meaningful recognition of the work that begins long before the bottle is opened: caring for our organic olive groves throughout the year, harvesting at the perfect moment, and preserving every drop of flavor through meticulous production.

We would like to thank the judges of the Japan Olive Oil Prize, our loyal customers, and all the guests who visit our estate and experience firsthand the passion behind every harvest.

Italy is not just a country of olive oil… it’s a mosaic of landscapes, traditions, and centuries-old trees that tell a deeper story. 🌿

The new 2026 Slow Food Guide celebrates this extraordinary heritage, bringing together hundreds of producers and over a thousand oils that reflect the true soul of Italian extra virgin olive oil. More than a ranking, it’s an invitation to travel — to discover the people, places, and passion behind every drop.

We are especially proud to see authentic, family-run realities recognized — those who protect biodiversity, respect the land, and keep traditions alive. Among them, our own Il Fontanaro, where olive oil is not just produced, but lived and shared every day.

A publication designed to guide the reader through the discovery of the region's olive oil producers and the extraordinary heritage of cultivars that characterizes Italian production. Special award goes to Masciantonio in Casoli (Chieti). Another award goes to Il Fontanaro in Paciano (Perugia), run....

If you’re coming to Italy in May and wondering what to actually do around Il Fontanaro — start here.

This is the month when the calendar quietly fills up with events you won’t find months in advance… and somehow those are always the ones you remember most.

In Assisi, Calendimaggio (May 6–9) takes over the entire town — music in the streets, costumes, friendly rivalries between neighborhoods. You don’t just watch it… you get pulled into it.

A few days later in Gubbio, the Corsa dei Ceri (May 15) begins — a race that’s fast, loud, and full of energy. It’s one of those moments where you look around and realize this has been happening the same way for generations.

At the beginning of the month, Arezzo hosts the Arezzo Antique Fair — stalls filling the piazzas, vintage finds, and that perfect excuse to spend a slow afternoon wandering.

And toward the end of May, Cantine Aperte opens doors across the countryside — small wineries, tastings, conversations, and a chance to experience wine where it’s actually made.

We’ll keep adding more as they’re announced — here in Tuscany and Umbria, many events only appear a week or two in advance. It’s unpredictable… but that’s exactly what makes planning a trip here feel different.

We’ve started collecting our favorites here:

Earth Day 🌿

One People. One Planet.

More than 1 billion people, across over 190 countries, pause today for the same reason.

A movement that began in 1970 and quietly grew into something global.

And yet, the real story has always been smaller.

In the rhythm of the seasons.
In the way water is used — knowing that agriculture alone accounts for nearly 70% of the world’s freshwater.
In the care for food — in a world where one third of it is still wasted.

Here, it stays simple.

What grows, is cooked.
What is cooked, is shared.
Nothing more.

From the garden → to the table.

A love that began in Africa… and found its home in Italy.

In 1972, our parents fell in love — a story that started far away, under a different sky, and carried with it courage, vision, and a deep connection to life.

In 1976, that love led them to Il Fontanaro.
At the time, it was only a ruin. No comforts, no guarantees — just a dream waiting to be built.

With patience and dedication, they brought this place back to life, creating a new way of living.

Today, Il Fontanaro is everything that dream stood for — authenticity, simplicity, and a deep respect for the land.

Becoming part of the Slow Food Presidium feels like a true continuation of their love story. 🤍

Some mornings at Il Fontanaro begin like this…

Helmets on.
A deep breath of fresh Umbrian air.
And the quiet sound of tires rolling through olive groves.

Within minutes you leave the villa behind and find yourself riding along peaceful dirt roads, surrounded by vineyards, wildflowers and rolling hills that seem to stretch forever.

One moment you are in Umbria…
a few turns later you cross gently into Tuscany.

No traffic.
No rush.
Just the rhythm of the countryside and the laughter of friends riding together.

Stop for a photo.
Ride through ancient olive trees.
Discover hidden villages along the way.

This is one of the most beautiful ways to explore the landscape around Il Fontanaro.

And the best part?
Our guests can rent bikes for a full week to explore at their own pace…
or simply enjoy a guided day ride through the hills between Umbria and Tuscany.

An adventure waiting just outside your villa door.

Would you ride with us? 🚴‍♂️
