Some places are built. Others are brought back to life. 🤎

Fontegirasole is one of those places.

Once a 19th-century to***co farm, it came into our family as an old farmhouse full of silence, history… and work. So much work.

For years, together with our father, we restored it slowly. Season after season. We never wanted to erase its past. We wanted to listen to it, protect it, and give it a new life.

The restoration continued until we finally opened the doors in 2012.

Today, Fontegirasole is home to five country homes, surrounded by fields, olive trees, gardens and that endless Umbrian light — from the first soft sunrise to the last golden light of sunset.

It is a place for families to come together again. For grandparents, children and cousins sharing long tables. For family reunions where everyone has their own space, but no one is ever far away. For children running barefoot, discovering the countryside, making friends with nature and forgetting, for a while, about screens and schedules.

This is what Country Slow Living means to us.

Not luxury that shouts.
But space. Light. Time.

Fontegirasole follows the sun.
From the first light of sunrise to the last light of sunset, the house is surrounded by light all day long.

And perhaps the most beautiful part is knowing that the old to***co farm our father helped us save is still doing what a home should do:

Last night, under the warm June sky, we joined the community of Paciano to gather wild herbs and flowers from the gardens and countryside. 🌿🌸

Rose petals, sage, St. John’s wort, lavender, chamomile… all left to rest in water overnight, under the stars and the magic of Midsummer Eve.

This morning, our guests washed their hands and faces with Acqua di San Giovanni — an ancient Italian tradition believed to bring good luck, health, and protection for the months ahead.

For generations, families have prepared this water on the night of June 23rd, when nature is said to be at its most powerful. Whether you believe in the legend or simply enjoy the beauty of the ritual, it’s a wonderful way to connect with the rhythms of the Italian countryside.

Some experiences can’t be booked.
They are simply lived. ✨

One of the reasons I love August in Tuscany and Umbria? You never know when you’ll turn a corner and find yourself in the Renaissance.

These photos are from the incredible Giostra del Saracino in Sarteano, where for a few magical days the town leaves the 21st century behind. Horses thunder through the streets, flags wave, drums echo, and entire families live their history with passion and pride.
