The "HitSicily" project started in 2001 when the owner and founder of the business, of Swiss origin but born in Sicily and resident there for most of his life, realised the enormous potential of self-catering holidays on this large island which until that time was a sector of the toursim industry that had been virtually abandoned and was not well catered-for by existing tour operators. The idea wh
ich attracted him in particular was to take the 'fly-drive' formula, which enables the modern traveller to decide in complete freedom which of the numerous places of natural and cultural interest on the island to visit, and enhance this by proposing to clients a carefully-selected range of holiday villas in which to stay, thereby providing the traveller with an opportunity to experience at a reasonable cost and at first hand the culture and traditions that Sicily has to offer. The first selection of houses and villas was presented to travellers by HitSicily in 2003 and subsequently a range of small hotels and bed and breakfast establishments was added to the list to cater for clients with limited time and to offer to all travellers the chance to experience a range of different properties or see a larger number of places in a shorter period of time. The properties are all selected according to strict criteria and according to the company's philosophy which is to include in the portfolio only those properties that are able to satisfy the requirements of a demanding and sophisticated clientele and offer the best accommodation possible at the most competitive price. This appears to be a winning formula in view of the success that HitSicily has experienced during the past three years, despite the economic downturn. Since its formation, travellers from around the world have chosen HitSicily for its professional and serious approach and for the excellence of its pre- and post-reservation service which is supported by its own office in Sicily.
