Nasza Pescaglia. 🤍

Kamienne zaułki, wąskie uliczki wijące się między starymi domami, cisza przerywana dźwiękiem dzwonów i mały bar, w którym na ścianach wciąż żyje dawna Pescaglia. Stare fotografie mieszkańców, orkiestry, codziennego życia borgo.

Tutaj przeszłość nie jest dekoracją. Jest częścią codzienności.

THE COURTYARD • BEFORE • THE SEARCH • AFTER

Some spaces were never meant to become rooms.

For centuries, this was simply a passage leading from the house to the village street. The family home stood on the left, while a mule stable stood on the right. Only years later were the two buildings united by a glass enclosure and a shared roof, transforming the former courtyard into an integral part of Casa sul Muro.

From the very beginning, we knew we didn’t want to erase its history.

One of the most meaningful pieces in this space is a pair of solid wooden armchairs. They were given to us by dear friends in what seemed like beyond-saving condition. After countless hours of careful restoration, they found a new life and became the quiet heart of this entrance.

The walls tell another story. Black and white photographs capture everyday life on Italian streets in the 1950s and 60s, while vibrant contemporary artworks inspired by Tuscan masters, including Agnolo Bronzino, create a dialogue between history and the present.

Today, this is no longer just a passage.

It is the first chapter of Casa sul Muro.

These were among the very first spaces we saw when we stepped into Casa sul Muro.

They immediately captivated us with their quiet charm and authenticity. They were never trying to be fashionable. They were simply real. You could almost feel the rhythm of everyday life that had unfolded here for decades.

At the same time, it was obvious that time had left its mark. The kitchen, dining room and bathroom were heavily worn, lacked functionality, and required a complete rethink.

Interestingly, our first ideas looked completely different. We initially envisioned these rooms in a far more contemporary, minimalist style. We created countless concepts, many of which never made it beyond the design stage. Looking back, we’re glad they didn’t. They became an important part of our creative journey.

The longer the renovation lasted, the better we came to understand this house. Every stone wall we uncovered, every old chestnut beam, every original detail reminded us that Casa sul Muro already had its own voice and its own story. Our role was never to rewrite it, but simply to add another chapter.

So we changed direction.

Instead of replacing everything with new furniture, we chose to preserve as much as possible. Guided by the principles of less waste, we restored old pieces, giving them a new life through colour, finishes and carefully considered details. We wanted to respect the past without becoming trapped by it.

The result you see today is not a faithful recreation of any of our original concepts. It is something far more meaningful: the outcome of hundreds of decisions made along the way, shaped by the house itself and by the stories hidden within its walls.

Sometimes the best design doesn’t begin at a drawing board.

Sometimes it emerges from listening carefully to a place that has already lived for more than five hundred years.

✨ Change is in the air… and this is only the beginning.

Welcome to the very first post in our new series, “The Transformation of Casa sul Muro.”

Over the coming months, we’d love to take you behind the scenes and share the extraordinary journey of this remarkable house.

We’ll be showing you photographs from before, during, and after each stage of its transformation. We’ll also share sketches, ideas, mood boards and design concepts. Some of them have already become reality, while others continue to evolve. Because Casa sul Muro is a living project. Every challenge reveals new possibilities, every discovery inspires another idea. It is a constant evolution… and sometimes a small revolution.

Today, we begin with the lower ground floor.

The original room was simple and understated, but it already held the house’s greatest treasure: an authentic centuries-old fresco. Our vision was never to compete with it, but to let it become the heart of the space. A deep blue wall, carefully designed lighting and a more intimate atmosphere completely changed how the room feels, while allowing the fresco to tell its own story.

None of this would be possible without our extraordinary Italian friends and neighbours.

While we are often hundreds of kilometres away, they have taken on the enormous responsibility of bringing every idea to life, solving unexpected problems, making countless decisions and caring for Casa sul Muro as if it were their own home. Their dedication, craftsmanship and friendship have become an essential part of this story.

This journey is far from over.

The garden, the ancient wood-fired oven, the new terrace, hidden corners of the house… there is still so much to discover.
