If you’re staying with us in Pianella and fancy a day trip that feels like stepping back in time… this is it 🤍

Civitella del Tronto has quietly become one of our favourite places to visit. Just over an hour from Pianella, it’s the kind of place that doesn’t feel like it’s quite caught up with the modern world… and that’s exactly its charm.

Perched high on a ridge with sweeping views across Abruzzo and into Le Marche, life here moves slower. You’ll find locals sitting in the sunshine, small market stalls, and streets that haven’t changed for centuries.

It’s also home to one of the largest fortresses in Europe, a place that held out longer than any other during the unification of Italy… and you can still feel that history in the walls.

Wander the narrow stone streets, stop for a long lunch, take in the views, and explore the fortress stretching across the skyline. It’s peaceful, beautiful, and wonderfully untouched.
