Why we call our tent a lodge? Well, it’s a tent for sure, but much more than just that. Is it a glamping then? Not really, as this is not a camping with a bunch of fully equipped bungalows, disguised as tents by just an outside shell of fabric; step inside and the magic of sleeping in a tent is lost. We are difficult to categorize and simply unique, but similar to tent-lodges used on safari in Africa. We wanted just a classic, sturdy cotton/canvas tent with straight walls, not round, and without plastic windows and such ugliness. Neither did we want any of the “industrial”, “scrap wood” or Ibiza” - style ready-made interiors on the market, thank you very much, but couldn’t find what we were looking for in the whole of Europe. So we browsed the internet until we found what we wanted in the US and after negotiating with the supplier (who had never exported a tent to Europe before but was willing to do it if we found a courier), we imported our wall tent directly to Italy. We were very, very relieved when it did indeed arrive on our doorstep 😅. Wall tents are used for camping in the wilderness and for the wooden beam structure we were also inspired by the same trekking & camping culture. They use in situ trees to hang their tents onto, so we more or less copied this idea with local beams. The wooden platform where our tent is mounted on serves as astable and horizontal base, letting air circulate below and doubles as floor. That’s in short the story of how our lodge in our own tamed wilderness came to be!
