Il Castello da monumento funerario diventa un avamposto fortificato, poi da oscuro e terribile carcere a splendida dimora rinascimentale che vede attivo tra le sue mura Michelangelo, da prigione risorgimentale a museo.

📌It was built around 123 AD as a mausoleum for Emperor Adriano and his family.
‼️The history of this building was different from that of the other Roman monuments which have been devastated, ruined or converted into modern structures during the years. The Castle of the funerary monument was later used as a fortress, a dark and terrible prison, a beautiful Renaissance residence with Michelangelo within its walls and then ends up becoming a Museum. Its history includes many of the Eternal city vicissitudes which can be found in its massive walls or in the sumptuous frescoed rooms, a place where past and present appear indissolubly linked.
