🇮🇹 Uno dei complessi urbanistici più spettacolari della Roma barocca

Piazza Navona è uno dei complessi urbanistici più spettacolari e caratteristici della Roma barocca. La piazza è delimitata dagli edifici che sorsero sui resti dello Stadio di Domiziano, della cui pista sono conservate la forma e le dimensioni.

L’originale forma della piazza attuale, infatti, imita fedelmente il perimetro dell’antico stadio che Domiziano fece costruire nell’86 d. C. per la pratica di gare di atletica e corse di cavalli. I resti di questa antica struttura si trovano a 5-6 metri al di sotto dell’odierno piano stradale ed è possibile vederli ancora sotto un palazzo moderno in Piazza di Tor Sanguigna e nei sotterranei della chiesa di Sant’Agnese in Agone. Il nome moderno della piazza deriva dal termine Agones che in latino vuol dire appunto “Giochi”.

La piazza è raggiungibile a piedi dalla nostra struttura.

Piazza Navona is one of the most spectacular and characteristic urban complexes of Baroque Rome. The square is bordered by the buildings that were built on the remains of the Stadium of Domitian, whose shape and dimensions are preserved.

The original shape of the current square, in fact, faithfully imitates the perimeter of the ancient stadium that Domitian had built in 86 AD. C. for the practice of athletics and horse racing. The remains of this ancient structure are located 5-6 meters below today's street level and can still be seen under a modern building in Piazza di Tor Sanguigna and in the basement of the church of Sant'Agnese in Agone. The modern name of the square derives from the term Agones which in Latin means precisely "Games".

🇮🇹 Dal 1904, sotto il Belvedere del Gianicolo, alle ore 12 in punto tre soldati ogni giorno caricano un obice a salve e sparano un colpo. La tradizione del colpo di cannone risale a Pio IX che, per evitare confusioni di orario, istituì nel 1846 questo servizio. Prima di approdare al Gianicolo, il cannone sparò dalle torri di Castel Sant'Angelo e poi da Monte Mario.

Al di là delle mura gianicolensi troviamo Monteverde, quartiere residenziale ricco di ville signorili ed eleganti palazzi dove è piacevole fare una passeggiata.
