📌 La “seconda Ca****la Sistina”
Quando si parla di Ca****la Sistina, il pensiero corre subito a quella in Vaticano legata a Sisto IV. Ma non tutti sanno che ne esiste una seconda all’interno della basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore.
🖊 Fu voluta da Sisto V tra il 1585 e il 1587 e progettata dal suo architetto di fiducia, Domenico Fontana, per custodire l’Oratorio del Presepe e il monumentale sepolcro del pontefice.
🔎 La straordinaria impresa decorativa, culminata nella magnifica cupola, fu diretta da Giovanni Guerra e Cesare Nebbia, protagonisti di alcuni dei più importanti cantieri artistici dell’epoca.

📌 The “Second Sistine Chapel”
When we hear “Sistine Chapel,” our minds immediately go to the one in the Vatican, named after Sixtus IV. Yet few people know that there is a second “Sistine Chapel” inside the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.
🖊 It was commissioned by Sisto V between 1585 and 1587 and designed by his trusted architect, Domenico Fontana, to house the Oratory of the Nativity and the pope’s monumental tomb.
🔎 The remarkable decorative campaign, crowned by its magnificent dome, was directed by Giovanni Guerra and Cesare Nebbia, who were also active in some of the most important artistic projects of their time.
