🇬🇧 At the heart of the celebrations for Salerno’s patron saint.
💒 September 21st marks one of Campania’s most anticipated religious observances: the procession of Saint Matthew. Every year, it draws thousands of the faithful and tourists who line the city center streets to watch the long parade of bearers carrying the statues of the Apostle, Saint Joseph, Saint Gregory VII, and the Salernitan martyrs Gaius, Ante, and Fortunatus.
🥩 The Feast of Saint Matthew is also linked to culinary traditions featuring bold flavors. The most popular dish is spleen, prepared in various ways by home cooks and restaurateurs alike, while the "scazzetta" remains the signature dessert associated with the patron saint.
🎆 Late in the evening, a spectacular fireworks display brings the festivities to a close.
