From Lake Maggiore to the Duomo of Milan. ⛏️⛪

Few people know that one of Milan’s most famous landmarks has a very strong connection with our territory.

The marble of the Duomo comes from the quarries of Candoglia, near Lake Maggiore. For centuries, huge blocks of marble travelled by water along an extraordinary route: from the Toce River to Lake Maggiore, then along the Ticino and the Naviglio Grande, all the way to the heart of Milan.

A journey that began more than six centuries ago — and a story that still continues today, as Candoglia marble is still used for the restoration of the Cathedral.

Sometimes, discovering Lake Maggiore also means discovering how far its stories have travelled.

From Candoglia, the marble travelled, entered Lake Maggiore, continued down the Ticino River and then reached Milan.

🍂 Autumn has arrived in Stresa.

This weekend is a lovely time to experience the town at a slower pace.

On Sunday 4 October, the traditional Castagnata Alpina returns to the lakefront at Piazzale Imbarcadero — autumn flavours, roasted chestnuts and the atmosphere of Stresa just a few steps from the lake.

And there is still time to enjoy the Borromean Islands, stroll along the waterfront and discover Lake Maggiore before the end of the season.

Dal 10 ottobre torna uno dei viaggi autunnali più suggestivi d’Europa: il Treno del Foliage tra Piemonte e Canton Ticino.
La Ferrovia Vigezzina-Centovalli percorre 52 chilometri tra Domodossola e Locarno, attraversando boschi, vallate e piccoli borghi che in autunno si tingono di giallo, arancione e rosso.

L’edizione 2026 sarà attiva fino al 15 novembre. Il viaggio dura poco meno di due ore per tratta e il biglietto permette anche una fermata intermedia, ad esempio a Santa Maria Maggiore, Re, Malesco o Intragna.

I prezzi partono da 36 euro nei giorni feriali e la prenotazione del posto è obbligatoria. Nei weekend i costi aumentano, quindi chi può scegliere potrebbe trovare più conveniente partire durante la settimana.
