Villa Monarca built in 1878 is a historical Leopoldina home, or casa leopoldina, a traditional rural farmhouse style unique to Tuscany, particularly in the Valdichiana region. These homes are named after Grand Duke Leopold II of Tuscany, who initiated significant agrarian reforms in the late 18th and early 19th centuries to modernize agriculture and improve rural living conditions.

The Leopoldina homes were built during this period as part of his efforts to incentivize farming families to settle in the countryside and cultivate the land more effectively. A key feature of the Leopoldina home is the central loggia or tower: A distinctive square or rectangular structure, providing panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
