A small summer novelty at Stone Oven House.

Hidden among the greenery of Rorà, our new pool is finally ready. After a day of hiking, painting, writing, or simply doing nothing at all, there is now one more place to slow down.

A swim with a view of the forest, the sound of insects, mountain air, and long evenings under the stars.

Sometimes luxury is not about adding more, but about having enough space to pause.

Summer at Stone Oven House has become a little cooler.

People often asked us if we had any pets.

And we always answered:

«Only squirrels in the forest, lizards on the stones, butterflies in the garden, fish in the pond, and countless tadpoles.»

That was true… until recently.

For almost three years, a shy wild cat has been visiting us, slowly learning not to be afraid of humans. Only recently did she allow us to touch her, and occasionally even enjoy a few gentle pets.

Then, a surprise.

For about a month and a half after giving birth, she kept her kittens hidden in the attic. And now they have finally decided to join the world.

There are four of them: white, black, grey, and ginger.

Sometimes they disappear for days. Then they return as if nothing happened.

They don’t live inside the house — we keep them outdoors because some of our guests may have cat allergies.

So now, apparently, we can no longer say that we have no pets.

We simply have five very independent neighbours. 🐈

In front of the sauna there are some beautiful mullein plants, from which we are about to pick the yellow flowers to make herbal teas. This plant has been valued since ancient times for its healing properties, particularly for alleviating symptoms associated with respiratory conditions. It is still used today to treat conditions such as bronchitis, asthma, coughs and cold symptoms.

Davanti alla sauna ci sono due bellissime piante di verbasco, di cui stiamo per raccogliere i suoi fiori per prepare le tisane. Pianta che fu apprezzata fin dall’antichità per le sue proprietà curative, soprattutto per alleviare i sintomi legati alle patologie delle vie respiratorie. Viene ancora oggi utilizzato nella cura di malattie quali bronchite, asma, tosse e sintomi da raffreddore.

These sculptures scattered around our park were created by Manfred Kronenthaler.

The story began before we even met him. One day, while walking through Val Pellice, Manfred happened to step into Aira, our old stone granary that we are slowly restoring and occasionally using as an exhibition space. At the time, it was hosting an exhibition by Lev Nikitin.

A year later, he returned as a guest with his son. Only shortly before leaving did we discover that he was an artist himself.

Or rather, not an artist in the usual sense. Manfred is a biologist and scientist by profession. He has been making art as a self-taught artist for only about fifteen years and has never pursued a conventional art career.

His work immediately caught our attention. We invited him back as an artist-in-residence at , and since then he has returned several times. Over the years, he has created around a dozen sculptures for Stone Oven House, many of which now seem as if they have always belonged here among the trees, stones and old walls.

Sometimes the best residencies begin with nothing more than a random walk and an open door.

This year we took on a little too much.

New rooms, a new website, endless improvements, repairs and unfinished ideas. Not everything is ready yet. But some things are finally coming together.

We recently updated the photos for Stone Oven Stay on Airbnb and Booking, and almost immediately the calendar started filling up. August is already nearly booked.

Most people plan their trip for August.

It’s easy to understand why.

In the cities, the asphalt melts under the sun. The air feels heavy with heat. Even along the coast, finding a quiet spot can be a challenge.

Up here in the mountains, sometimes all you need is a tree.

We have plenty of those.

They come with cold streams, waterfalls and mountain trails that eventually lead to small restaurants hidden among the clouds.

But every year we notice the same thing.

Many visitors arrive just when the most magical part of the season is already beginning to disappear.

Right now, the fireflies have arrived.

They are impossible to capture properly in photos or stories. By mid-July they will be gone again, together with the wild strawberries, blueberries and many of the small gifts that early summer brings.

Of course, there will still be plenty to enjoy afterwards. The stars are not going anywhere.

The mountains, forests, streams and trails will remain.

But this particular moment of the year cannot be saved for later.

P.S. Stone Oven House is still full of art, artists and creative projects. But the fireflies deserve some attention too. They appear without grants, curators or press releases, and disappear leaving only memories of a summer that passed too quickly.

When we restored the old hayloft, we imagined it as a place where people could relax, work, dance, and walk barefoot on the wooden floor.

The floor is made of beech wood — warm, smooth, and solid under the feet.

Seeing it now filled with the bodies and movements of the dance retreat participants with and .souldance feels like a quiet confirmation.

Summer is the perfect time to explore the valleys of Val Pellice — mountain trails, forests, rivers, and small ancient villages hidden among the hills of Northern Italy.
