April 25th: a double celebration in Venice 🌹
Today we honor two deeply meaningful moments: the 81st anniversary of Italy’s Liberation and St. Mark’s Day, the patron saint of Venice.
In Venice, this date is also known as the Festa del Bòcolo — a poetic tradition where a man offers a red rose (bòcolo) to the woman he loves.
Legend tells of Tancredi, a young man of humble origins, who fell in love with Maria, the Doge’s daughter. To prove his worth, he left for war and was fatally wounded in a rose garden. Before dying, he sent Maria a rose stained with his blood. On April 25th, she was found lifeless, holding the bòcolo close to her heart.
A timeless story of love, devotion, and sacrifice — still alive in Venice today.
🌹 At Hotel Colombina, we celebrate this tradition with a simple gesture: a rose, a story, a moment to remember.
