Step into the past with Casa Colomba's festive doors! 🎄🚪 Initially concealed under layers of brown paint, these ancient beauties were revealed not long after we purchased our home unveiling their rich history. Check out all the photos to witness the remarkable transformation! 🎨

During our journey, insightful guests—archaeologists and history teachers from the UK—discovered symbols etched into the wood. Turns out, these markings were crafted in the 15th Century to ward off evil spirits, adding an intriguing layer to the doors' mystery. If only these doors could whisper their ageless stories!

Preparing Casa Colomba for Christmas guests and I need YOUR help! ⭐️😍✨

Our cosy living room with a 12th-century stone wall is getting a festive makeover. 🧑‍🎄

Should we go all out with a decorated tree, add a twinkling of lights, drape a garland, hang a wreath, or bring in seasonal flowers? 🌺🎄

We believe the rich red theme already makes it quite festive but we’re open to adding some festive cheer. ❤️

🎄✨ Share your favorite holiday decor ideas below! We cant wait to hear your suggestions.

Imagine… A 12th a century tower in the heart of a Medieval village. Where history meets hospitality in the heart of a small Medieval town.

From the bedroom window you will see a small white chapel on a hill, lit with the radiant glow of a star during Christmas time🌟

Before we know it these upcoming holidays will be over and many will start thinking of planning their next vacation!

2024 travel plans in the air? Will it be Italy, Tuscany or somewhere else in the world?

Casa Colomba didn’t always look like these first few photos! 😅

Throwback to Casa Colomba's early days! This afternoon I found some old pics of the renovation journey – not many as social media wasn't our focus back then. Lorenzo and I, both had jobs, Lorenzo was managing a hotel bar and I was still working as a long haul stewardess. 💁‍♂️🍾👩🏽‍✈️🛩️

We took on a lot of tasks ourselves while the pros handled the crucial bits like electrics and plumbing. Restoring history demands time and money – that’s for sure and looking back on these old photos I don’t know how we did it! 😅

Any fellow historic home restorers out there? Share your moments of wanting to throw in the towel and, if you made it your triumph! 🔨👷‍♂️💪

There’s something about a clock tower which strikes on the hour and half hour in a small Medieval town!

It’s a Tuscan tradition which has been occurring for hundreds of years but sadly due to complaints from overseas tourists some Tuscan towns have limited the sound of the bells so that the visitors can sleep!

Personally we love the sound of the bell tower in Vicopisano and thank goodness we have a mayor who would never dream of upsetting the local residents by switching off tradition!

Luckily the type of visitors we welcome to Casa Colomba are seeking to step back in time and live Tuscany like a local!

How do you feel about mixing local tradition and tourism? Should the bells be silenced or should local customs continue?

Vicopisano’s Torre dell’Orologio dates back to the 12th Century. It’s just a 100 metres from Casa Colomba and you can visit the tower at the weekends - climb to the top and get a birds-eye view over the terracotta roofs and landscape.

By the way Casa Colomba’s tower bedroom is in the rear of the building so although the bell can be heard it won’t shake the wrought iron bedstead! 😅
