Togura Kamiyamada Onsen is fortunate to still have geisha. Last night’s guests had us arrange a 30-minute geisha show which we held in our lobby. Takeshi-san danced and Harukoma-san played the shamisen and sang the serene Yume-Fu. After the guests joined in a dance, we finished with the parlor game Konpira Funefune.

5am Zazen

Joey Paz brought a group of yogis again this year to our Kamesei Ryokan for a weeklong onsen + yoga retreat.
Every morning we went to nearby Kaigenji Temple for 5am zazen. After meditating the monk, Taiga-san, invited us for tea and deep philosophical discussions, and sometimes invited us to the main hall for sutra chant. It was magical, mystical, empowering, a beautiful opening of hearts.

10 months-old and loving the 30-minute Geisha Show. She was so absorbed by Takeshi’s dancing.
This unique interactive entertainment by the Togura Kamiyamada geisha guild can be arranged when staying here at Kamesei Ryokan.

Nearby Amenomiya’s once-every-three-years National Intangible Cultural Heritage-designated festival will take place on Wednesday 29-April (Showa Day), 2026. Don’t miss this chance to see this unique event which is highlighted by a ceremony involving Shishi Lions dangling from a bridge, flailing back and forth with their heads just touching the river below.

Our koi pond’s garden here at Kamesei Ryokan is continuing its parade of spring flowers. The peony is next up.
Spring is a pleasant time to travel here to our onsen town Togura Kamiyamada.
