🐉👁️ The Hachimantai Dragon Eye is almost fully formed!

Located at Kagami-numa Pond near the Hachimantai Summit, this rare natural phenomenon appears each spring as melting snow creates a striking ring around the frozen center of the pond—resembling a giant dragon’s eye.

Access: 20-minute walk from the Hachimantai Summit Rest House parking lot. Please stay on marked trails and do not enter restricted areas.

Snow remains on the route, so waterproof shoes or snow boots are strongly recommended.

Now is the time to visit—the Dragon Eye is changing every day and nearing its peak appearance!

Thank you to everyone who joined our “My Story” event on Wednesday, May 27! 🌏

A special thank you to our guest speakers, Mana Hazawa and Brian Gueyser, for sharing their unique experiences and personal stories with us.

We were delighted to welcome both familiar faces and first-time participants from Hachimantai and neighboring communities. This session also featured a new activity corner focused on nonverbal communication, challenging participants to connect and collaborate beyond words.

We’re planning the next My Story event for late July. If you joined us this time, we hope to see you again. And if you couldn’t make it, we’d love to welcome you next time!

🐉 Hachimantai Dragon Eye 👁️
5/17/26

The Hachimantai Dragon Eye is a rare seasonal phenomenon that forms at Kagami-numa Pond near the Hachimantai Summit. As snow gradually melts in spring, a ring-shaped pattern emerges around the frozen center of the pond, creating the appearance of a giant dragon’s eye.

This mysterious sight can only be from mid-May to mid-June each year, when snowmelt and weather conditions align.

Access: Hachimantai Dragon Eye (Kagami-numa Pond) is about a 20-minute walk from the Hachimantai Summit Rest House parking lot. Please stay on marked paths and do not enter restricted areas. As you’ll be walking on snow, we recommend wearing long/snow boots.
