We received some awesome sourdough from our friends at in Omaezaki! If you're down by the beach side make sure to stop in.

We made some French onion soup to go with it and had a great lunch outside!

Want to see sakura without the crowds? Kawane honcho has plenty of "kawazu" sakura trees, known for blooming early.

Already the locations at the bottom of the valley are turning pink

Last year, the row close to the guest house bloomed in the last week of feb.

Why not plan a visit and enjoy spring a little early?

Fresh, organic veggies from our local farmer

She delivers a seasonal farm box to the guesthouse each month, and guests can also purchase directly from her during their stay.

One of our favorite winter experiences in Kawane Honcho 🌟

The Star Train, running only on winter weekends, travels through the valley under some of the darkest skies in Shizuoka. We always recommend it to guests looking for something truly special.

Our second floor room "Ko" is sunny and warm even in the middle of winter.

It features double panned glass and a great view of the mountains around kawane honcho.

We've been using the slower colder months to make some repairs on the house.

Shoji are beautiful but get damaged easily. This is one way to repair it temporarily while waiting for the warmer season to re-paper. It involves cutting out the parts that have been damaged and gluing in new paper.

Even in the colder months Kawanehon is beautiful.

The 8 bridge path in the Sessokyo river gorge is a great place to take is the rivers and mountains of Kawanehon. An easy path that takes about 30 min to walk. You might even get lucky and see some Japanese macaques on it.

Make sure to take a hot spring bath at the Sessokyo onsen kaikan located at the end of the path. Their green tea pudding and ice cream are wonderful.

Kawanehon is a great place to see the wildlife in Japan. We got lucky saw Japanese macaques and a kamoshika (serrow in English) at the end of our walk the other day.
