Echoland puts you minutes from the valley's main sights. Ride the gondola and lift up Happo-one to Happo Pond, where the ridge stays cool through summer. Iwatake's summit terrace opens onto the full sweep of the Alps. Back at the hotel, a ground-floor locker room and shower let you rinse off right after a ride.

At LA VIGNE DINING FÛDO, the chef sources Shinshu ingredients from the growers and builds each plate around the day. The cellar holds more than 1,000 premium Japanese wines, most from Nagano, and the wine concierge pairs every course to the land it came from. At Star Wine List of the Year Japan, the international guide to wine lists, the restaurant took Gold in two categories and Silver in one, its second consecutive year of Gold.

Step outside and Echoland is Hakuba's liveliest stretch: cafes, restaurants, izakaya, and bars along one street. Warm evenings, local plates, travelers from everywhere.
