Miyajima Guest House Mikuniya is located on the island of Miyajima, a short walk from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Itsukushima Shrine. Until 2008, the building served as a retreat center for the Japan Mint of the Finance Ministry. Inside, guests will find traditional details such as Japanese scrolls and low tables for enjoying a cup of tea. We have maintained the traditional interior and atmo
sphere to enhance the cultural experience of our guests. All guest rooms are in the Japanese style, with common bathrooms and toilets. Mikuniya is just a small guest house, with a maximum capacity of about 20 guests. The staffs don't speak fluent English, and are new to the experience of running a guesthouse. But we'll make every effort to make you feel welcome. The number of rooms is small, but we have a spacious common living area. Our hope is that this common space will be a meeting place for travelers from around the world. We've provided a piano, guitar, a large screen TV, computer, and a selection of books about Japanese culture, history and travel. We also have a space set aside where guests can enjoy a small taste of Japanese tea ceremony and calligraphy. In the kitchen, we've provided utensils and equipment enough to prepare whatever food you bring with you. Close to Mikuniya, you can wander through the famous Momiji-dani (Maple Leaf Valley) Park. You may also enjoy hiking to the summit of Misen, the island's sacred mountain. Huge numbers of visitors frequently visit Miyajima by day. But when the sun sets, the tourists ebb with the tide. The island at night is a mysterious place, where the voices of deer echo from the forested slopes above Mikuniya where monks once trained. The illuminated Torii gate and Itsukushima Shrine are sights which the day-trippers miss. But if you stay on the island, the twilight magic of Miyajima is yours to enjoy at your leisure. There are no convenience stores on the island, and most of the stores close earlier than they do in the urban centers. You'll encounter far fewer people on the island at night. This will be a treasured experience, though, enjoying the silence and mystery of this ancient place. We want to provide a guest house for people looking for this unique, hidden side of Miyajima.
「Miyajima guest house Mikuniya」は、宮島の島内にあり、ユネスコの世界文化遺産に登録されている厳島神社のすぐ近くに位置しています。施設は2008年まで大蔵省造幣局の保養所として使用され、広い和風庭園のある和風の建物です。それに合わせ、建物内にも、掛け軸や座卓などの和風調度品を備え、日本らしい雰囲気を大切にしています。
客室は全室和室で、バス・トイレは共有となります。最大限宿泊していただいて約20名足らずの小さなゲストハウスです。スタッフは英語を流暢に話せませんし、経験がないのですが、精いっぱいのおもてなしでお迎えいたします。
部屋数はすくないのですが、共有のリビングスペースは広く、世界中からの旅人との交流の場として自由に使っていただくことができます。ピアノやギター、大型テレビ、コンピューターデスク、日本文化や歴史、旅に関する書籍も多数用意しています。また、茶道や書道が体験できる共同スペースもあります。さらに、各種調味料を備えたキッチンでは、材料持込んでの調理も可能です。
宿舎の近くには名勝「もみじ谷公園」があり、ゆっくりとした散策も可能です。霊峰弥山への登山もおすすめです。
昼間は多くの観光客が訪れる宮島ですが、黄昏時を過ぎるとまるで潮が引くように人影が少なくなります。島の夜は早く、静かで長い宮島の夜が始まります。宮島は神々の宿る島と言われています。
夜の島は神秘的で、かつて修行の場であった背後の深い森からは、鹿の声が響き渡ります。ライトアップされた鳥居や厳島神社は、昼間では決して見ることのできない光景です。島に宿泊すれば、鳥居を背景にした黄昏の景色もゆっくりと十分楽しむことができます。島にはコンビニもなく、多くの店は早く閉まります。人影もまばらになります。むしろそのような神秘的で静かな宮島の夜を楽しみながら、街では味わえない特別な旅の体験ができるホステルを目標にしています。
