2 Cabins are better than 1 …
These 1 bedroom loft cabins are our most affordable and popular properties at Zen Chalets. Every guest that steps inside falls in love. The only downside is the kids will argue over who climbs the ladder to sleep in the cute loft bed of Riverside Cabin. Perfect for a family of 5.
When we purchased these cabins back in 2008 we named them ‘Happo Village Cabins’. Two Cabins right in Happo Village… made sense right?
The original Japanese owner, Kato san, built the cabins as summer tennis cottages. He called them (Midori) Green and Brown Cabin because of the colour of the carpet he selected in each. Kato san and his dog lived next door in the large pension called Benihana.
Benihana means Safflower which some taxi drivers still refer to the name of this whole area.
The Safflower is native to the Happo mountain area. An orange-flowered thistle-like Eurasian plant with seeds that yield an edible oil and petals that were formerly used to produce a red or yellow dye.
Benihana pension was so run down it was demolished years later. The tennis courts served as the foundations for Buddha and Mitsu Chalets in later years. You can still see the power poles standing that lit the courts at night.
