直江津は、日本海探訪の出発点として最適です。

まだあまり知られていない「くびき自転車道」を走り、古い鉄道トンネルを抜け、寺院や市場、そして息を呑むような海の景色を眺めながら糸魚川を目指しましょう。帰りは電車に乗り、途中でディストピア的な雰囲気の筒石駅に停車します。

Naoetsu is the perfect start point for your Sea of Japan exploration.

Ride the yet to be discovered Kubiki Bike Trail to Itoigawa, through old rail tunnels, and past temples, markets and breath taking ocean scenery. Then catch the train back that stops on the way at the dystopian underground Tsutsuishi Station (筒石駅) underground station.

旧師団長官舎は、明治43年(1910年)に、旧陸軍高田第13師団第3代師団長・長岡外史中将の邸宅として南城町3丁目に建てられたもので、市内に残る数少ない明治期の和洋折衷の木造建築物です。
平成3年(1991年)までは自衛隊高田駐屯地の幹部宿舎として使われていましたが、明治の貴重な洋風建築保存のため、平成5年（1993年）に市が現在地に移築、復原したものです。平成6年（1994年）1月に市文化財に指定されました。
復原した場所は、旧高田市長公舎跡地で、外史の先代の第2代師団長が居を構えていました。
令和2年度に改修工事を行い、文化財としての趣をいかしつつ、民間事業者によるレストランとしても利活用しています。

Kyushidancho Kansha

The former Division Commander's Residence was built in 1910 (Meiji 43) in Minamijo-cho 3-chome as the residence of Lieutenant General Gaishi Nagaoka, the 3rd commander of the former Imperial Japanese Army's Takada 13th Division. It is one of the few remaining Meiji-era wooden buildings in the city that blends Japanese and Western architectural styles.

Until 1991 it was used as officer quarters for the Japan Self-Defense Forces' Takada Garrison, but in 1993 the city relocated and restored it to its current location to preserve this valuable Western-style building from the Meiji era. It was designated a city cultural property in January 1994.

The restored site is the former site of the Takada Mayor's Residence, where Gaishi's predecessor, the 2nd Division Commander, resided. In 2020, renovation work was carried out, and while preserving its cultural heritage, it is also being utilized as a restaurant by a private business.
