建物の歷史 History of the Building of KURO (See below for English)
江戸時代、金沢城隣のこの一帯は加賀藩前田家の家老屋敷地の一つでした（”加賀八家”前田長種系の屋敷跡地です）。
この町家の奥にはその時代に4つあった土蔵のうちの1つが今も残っています（非公開）
明治時代、富山県高岡市に総本家がある名家室崎家の木綿問屋になりました。
昭和初期にはこの町家の大改修がなされました。
その際には新築するより多くの改装費用がかかったそうです。
木綿問屋は第二次世界大戦中に廃業となりますが、木綿問屋としては約40年その役割を担いました。
その後も近年まで室崎家の個人邸宅として大切に使われてきました。
二階suiteの窓に付いている鉄柵は第二次世界大戦時の武器供出の際にも拒否したとのこと。
近隣の町家はその際に供出したため、近隣ではこの家にのみ残っているそうです。
隣接する現在のゲストハウス白とつながる戸があったり、現在のsuiteのリビングルームに茶室茶釜跡なども発見されています。

During the Edo period, the area next to Kanazawa Castle was one of the Karo’s (a high ranking samurai official who served as a chief counsel or to a daimyo) mansions belonging to the Maeda clan, one of the "Kaga Hachike" families (the site of the residence of Maeda Nagatane's lineage).
Of the four storehouses that existed in that era, one remains behind this townhouse today (our storehouse is not open to the public).
In the Meiji period, it became a cotton wholesale business for the prestigious Murozaki family, whose main residence was in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture.
During the early Showa period, the townhouse underwent a major renovation that was more costly than building a new one, but it was worth it to preserve its rich history.
As a cotton wholesaler, the business served its purpose for almost four decades, until it closed down during World War II.
But the townhouse lived on, cherished as the personal residence of the Murozaki family, and a true testament to their passion for preservation.
Remarkably, the iron fence on the second-floor suite window was refused to be handed over as a weapon during World War II, making it the only one of its kind in the area.
And today, you can still experience the building's rich history and unique character for yourself, with a connecting door to the sister guesthouse "Shiro," and intriguing traces of a tea room and tea kettle found in the living room of the current suite.
