This summer, please come and enjoy the architecture mastery of Ryue Nishizawa, the partner of award winning venerable firm SANAA, who has designed SSH3 to be seamlessly connected with nature. The entire interior is wrapped in prized hinoki, creating a stunning visual and aromas that can only be found in old shrines and temples centuries ago. This is a rare Nishizawa-san's hospitality project where guests can experience the architecture overnight. A limited number of rooms is available for August. Please enjoy.

Unforgettable Moments from Our Mt. Tateyama Hike

Last week, we shared an unforgettable journey to the summit of Mt. Tateyama—an 11-kilometer pilgrimage retracing the sacred path once walked by Shinto priests for over a thousand years. Over the course of seven hours, we traversed a landscape that shifted with every step, revealing the majestic beauty of rugged peaks and serene valleys.

As we stood at the summit, our bodies were weary but our spirits were soaring, we felt something deep within shift. It was as if the mountain deities had quietly purified our souls and offered us a sense of renewal—reborn through nature’s grace.

Next, we head to Kamikochi in October—one of Japan’s most breathtaking natural sanctuaries. We invite you to join us on this next adventure as we journey deeper into the heart of Japan’s spiritual and natural heritage.

Thank you to all our guests and to our wonderful guide, Isagi, for joining us on this unforgettable pilgrimage hike to Toyama’s sacred peak. This journey will remain forever etched in our hearts.

According to legend, those who reach the summit are spiritually purified—reborn through the mountain’s power. Standing at 3,003 meters, the awe-inspiring Oyama Shrine, originally built in the 8th century, welcomed us with silent majesty.

We plan to return to this magnificent mountain next April Sakura season ready to embrace its tranquil beauty beneath a blanket of snow. Please enquire if you are interested.

WEEKEND TENNIS RETREAT 11/29-12/01 (3N/4D)
We are incredibly excited to launch our first weekend tennis retreat "Hitting with the Pro" in the fall. The retreat will be led by the top ATP-ranked players Jason Jung and Tatsuma Ito, both are very accomplished tournament players. The opportunity to hear first hand from them and to be able to train with them is priceless. This is a rare opportunity for enthusiastic recreational players looking to improve his/her game while having great fun and enjoying fine food.

The event is sponsored by the Italian luxury cashmere brand Falconeri. A set of beautiful gifts will be available to each participant. Spaces are limited to only 12 guests. The sessions are available in both Japanese and English. All levels are welcome. Please reserve at [email protected].

A heartfelt thank you to our guests and to PHKA Studio for joining us in our very first floral design workshop this week. It was truly eye-opening to witness the remarkable transformation of local, indigenous flowers and plants from Karuizawa into a meditative journey of discovery and self-reflection.

More than anything, it was the connections and friendships formed over the past few days that made this experience so special. We are deeply grateful to everyone who shared this beautiful and inspiring moment with us at Shishi-Iwa House.
