Alongside Ise Grand Shrine and Kashima Shrine until the Edo period,
Katori Shrine was one of only three shrines in Japan granted the title “Jingū.”
It enshrines Futsunushi-no-Ōkami, the deity who pacified the land of Japan in the Izumo Kuniyuzuri (the myth of the transfer of the land of Izumo),
and has long been revered by the Imperial House as a guardian shrine of the nation.
It is said to bring blessings for victory, safe travels, traffic safety, and protection from misfortune.
