🔔 Spending New Year's in Japan? Ring in the New Year with an actual bell! In Japan, New Year’s is a time to relax with family and there are many unique cultural practices to see, especially in Kyoto!

Many temples and shrines have a bell-ringing ceremony at midnight. People start lining up from New Year’s Eve through to the early morning to give their first prayer of the year and to enjoy the many stalls serving food and drink - this is called Hatsumode.

Japan celebrates its New Year in a much calmer way than many places around the world, so it is great for people looking for a quiet and relaxed way to experience Japanese culture!

🌟 Do you know about the Kyoto temple that houses 1001 golden statues?

GOOD NATURE HOTEL is just a stone's throw away from Kyoto's many gems, including Sanjusangen-do. The hall of this Buddhist temple is Japan's longest wooden structure, built to house a large statue, surrounded by 500 human-sized statues on each side of it.

Other highlights in this neighborhood are Chishaku-in Temple, famous for its art and garden. The temple is also an active training temple, so you may catch a glimpse of disciples around the vast grounds.

Kyoto National Museum is another great spot - especially in colder months! One of Japan's major art museums, you can find a wealth of pre-modern Japanese and Asian art here.

The Shichijo area is just a 20 minute train/bus ride from the hotel or a 30 minute walk, making it ideal for a nearby half-day excursion.
