清水で守られた御手洗川で足を清めながら、ろうそくの炎に願いを込めて奉納する歴史的な行事。
五色のろうそくは、身体安全・商売繁盛・良縁成就など、色ごとに異なるご利益をもたらすそうです🕯️

厳しい暑さの中でも川の水はキンと冷たく、足を浸すだけで涼しさを感じます。

Mitarashi River Foot-Dipping and Lantern Festival is currently being held at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine! ⛩️ (Just a direct bus ride from our hotel 🚌)

This traditional ritual has a long history. People purify their feet in the river, then light a candle and make a wish. You can choose from five different candle colors, each said to bring a different blessing. 🕯️

The cool river water is the perfect way to cool off in the summer heat.

In the evening, the shrine lights up beautifully, and you can also enjoy the festive atmosphere and food stalls. This is a wonderful way to experience summer in Japan!

祇園祭に並ぶ京都の夏の伝統行事「五山送り火」まで、あと6日🗓️

京都市街を囲む5つの山それぞれに文字や形を象った炎が順番に灯り、精霊を浄土へと送ります。
壮大なスケールでありながら未だに起源が明らかではなく、借仰に強く根差し受け継がれてきた、由緒正しい行事です。

Gozan Okuribi Bonfires, one of Kyoto's traditional events, is coming up in 6 days!

Five mountains surrounding the city are lit up with giant bonfires called "okuribi" one after another, creating various characters and shapes.
From August 13 to 16, the spirits of ancestors are believe to return home. The Gozan Okuribi fires are lit to guide them back to heven.
One interesting aspect of this symbolic religious ceremony is that its origins are still unknown.

ホテルから１番近い場所に位置する鈴鹿山です。

鈴鹿山とは・・・
鈴鹿権現をまつる。伊勢国鈴鹿山で道ゆく人々を苦しめた悪鬼を退治した鈴鹿権現（瀬織津姫命）を、金の烏帽子をかぶり手に大長刀を持つ女人の姿であらわしている。後の山には赤熊で象徴した悪鬼の首が置かれている。山に立つ松には鳥居・松・木立と宝珠を描いた絵馬がつけられるのも珍しく巡行後に盗難除けの護符として授与される。（公益財団法人祇園祭山鉾連合会HPより引用）

夜道を照らす、いくつも並んだ提灯の明かりがとても綺麗で祇園祭の風情を感じます。

明後日７月２４日(金)は、いよいよ後祭の巡行の日です。
山鉾の数だけ見ても、前祭が23基に対して後祭は11基と半分以下です。
その分、観客数もぐんと減りますが、そのことによって余裕を持って鑑賞できますし、巡行が行われる時間も9：30開始と、若干ではありますが前祭の巡行の時間よりも涼しめな時間帯なので、おすすめです。

Suzuka-yama is the float located closest to the hotel.

About Suzuka-yama...
It enshrines Suzuka Gongen. The figure represents Suzuka Gongen (Seoritsuhime-no-Mikoto)—who vanquished the evil demon that tormented travelers on Mount Suzuka in Ise Province—as a woman wearing a golden *eboshi* (court cap) and holding a long *naginata* (halberd). At the rear of the float sits the head of the evil demon, symbolized by a *shaguma* (red yak-hair wig). A unique feature is the *ema* (votive plaque) attached to the pine tree standing on the float; it depicts a *torii* gate, a pine tree, a grove, and a *hoju* (sacred gem), and is distributed after the procession as an amulet to ward off theft.(Source: Gion Matsuri Yamaboko Federation website)

The glow of the many lanterns illuminating the night streets is truly beautiful, evoking the unique atmosphere of the Gion Festival.

The day after tomorrow, Friday, July 24, marks the long-awaited *Ato-matsuri* (Latter Festival) procession.
In terms of the number of floats, the *Ato-matsuri* features 11, which is less than half the 23 floats seen in the *Saki-matsuri* (Former Festival).
While this means there are significantly fewer spectators, it allows for a more relaxed viewing experience. Additionally, the procession begins at 9:30 AM—slightly earlier than the *Saki-matsuri* procession—meaning the temperature is a bit cooler, making it a highly recommended time to watch.

こんにちは😃
京都ではおとといくらいに梅雨が明け、とても暑いです🥵
梅雨明け間もない頃は、まだ暑さに体が慣れてないせいか、数メートル暑くだけで「暑い…」となります(個人の意見ですが)

さてさて、京都の夏といえば祇園祭ですね！
今日、四条通では長刀鉾の「鉾建て」が始まっていました。何度見ても「すべて人の手で、釘も使わず木と縄で組み立てるとはすごいなぁ」と思います。

今週日曜日の7月12日には山鉾曳き初めが行われ、翌日の7月13日月曜日には厄除け粽の販売が始まります。

この時期は毎日京都に居ても色々楽しめる時期ですね

京都にお越しの際は、熱中症対策をしっかりしてお越しください。

The rainy season ended in Kyoto a couple of days ago, and it is sweltering now. 🥵
Right after the rainy season ends, my body hasn't quite adjusted to the heat yet, so even walking just a few meters makes me think, "It's so hot..." (at least, that's how I feel).

Speaking of which, summer in Kyoto means the Gion Matsuri!
Today, the assembly of the *Naginata-boko* float (*hokodate*) began on Shijo-dori Street. No matter how many times I see it, I am always amazed that the entire structure is put together by hand using only wood and rope—without a single nail.

This Sunday, July 12th, the *Yamaboko Hikizome* (ceremonial test-pulling of the floats) will take place, and sales of the *chimaki*—traditional amulet believed to ward off misfortune—begin the following day, Monday, July 13th.

This is a wonderful time of year to enjoy everything Kyoto has to offer.

こんにちは😃
近畿地方は先週6月4日に梅雨入りしました☔️
梅雨入り発表前こそ雨が多く感じていて、発表後はしばらく晴天が続いているので本当に梅雨入りした？という感覚でいます。
梅雨明け後にくる暑さがこわいですね。。。。

さて、今回は最近導入した御宿印をご紹介します！

御宿印は「宿の御朱印」をコンセプトに、株式会社JTB企画の元、ホテルとの連携により誕生した商品です。
ホテルの写真を背景に、右上には各都道府県の花があしらわれており、京都府の花として制定されている「しだれ桜」が描かれています。
京都市内では数多くの施設がこの御宿印を作成しているようで、御宿印集めをしてみるのも面白そうです。
今後、各都道府県での展開も予定されているそうなので、乞うご期待ですね

The rainy season officially began in the Kinki region last week, on June 4th. ☔️
Before the official announcement of the rainy season, it felt like there was a lot of rain, but after the announcement, we’ve had sunny weather for a while, so we’re wondering if the rainy season really started.
We’re dreading the heat that will come after the rainy season ends...

Now, let us introduce The “Onyado-in” (hotel stamp) that we recently introduced!

The “Onyado-in” (hotel stamp) is a product created in collaboration with hotels, under the planning of JTB Corporation, based on the concept of “hotel stamps.”
With a photo of the hotel as the background, the stamp features the flower of each prefecture in the upper right corner, and depicts the weeping cherry blossom, which is the designated flower of Kyoto Prefecture.
Many establishments in Kyoto City seem to be creating these Onyado-in stamps, so collecting them might be fun.
It seems that expansion to other prefectures is planned for the future, so please look forward to it!
