The Sanrio exhibition is being held at the Kyoto City Kyocera Museum of Art until December 11, 2022. The exhibition includes the background and history of each Sanrio character, items that have been released in the past, and artwork of Sanrio characters. The exhibition includes characters that everyone has seen at least once, so everyone can enjoy the exhibition.

Shinnyo-do Temple, officially called Shinsho-Gyokuraku-ji Temple, was founded in 984. The temple is well known for its maple leaves, so visitors can enjoy the extremely colorful scenery during the upcoming autumn foliage season. The trees had already begun to change color little by little.
Since the temple is located next to Konkai-Komyoji Temple, which we introduced earlier, we recommend that you visit the temple together with Konkai-Komyoji Temple.

真如堂は、正式には真正極楽寺と言い、984年に創建されました。もみじの名所として知られているため、これからの紅葉の季節には、極彩色の景色を楽しむことができます。すでに少しずつ、木々が色づき始めていました。
先日ご紹介した金戒光明寺と隣接しているため、金戒光明寺と合わせて参拝されることをおすすめします。

Konkai Komyoji Temple is known as "Kurodani-san" by the local residents. It is also known as a place associated with the Shinsengumi, since the Kyoto Shugosyoku (The Military Commissioner of Kyoto) established the Shinsengumi to maintain security in Kyoto at the end of the Edo period. Visitors can also worship the Goko-Shiyui Amitabha Buddha, which became famous as the Afro-Buddha statue.

Jidai Matsuri Festival, one of the three major festivals in Kyoto, was held on October 22. This festival began in 1895 to commemorate the 1,100th anniversary of the relocation of the capital to Kyoto. Citizens dressed in costumes from the Meiji Restoration to the Enryaku period parade through the city, going back in time. The costumes of each period have been carefully recreated through historical research, allowing visitors to enjoy the long procession without getting tired of it. Since the festival is held on October 22 every year, why not visit Kyoto next year or later to enjoy the festival?

京都三大祭りのうちの一つである時代祭が、10月22日に行われました。時代祭は、平安遷都1100年を記念して1895年にはじまったお祭りです。明治維新から延暦時代までの衣装に扮した市民が、時代を遡りながら市内を練り歩きます。各時代の装束は、歴史考証を経て入念に復元されたもので、長い行列を飽きずに楽しむことができます。

Kodaiji Temple was built by Kitanomandokoro, the wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, to pray for Hideyoshi's soul. The spacious precincts of the temple are blessed with cherry blossoms, autumn leaves, and bamboo groves, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery of the four seasons. Special night-time visits are also held at certain times of the year, allowing visitors to enjoy the fantastic scenery illuminated by the lights. In the fall of 2022, special night-time visits will be held from October 21 to December 11, so if you are interested, why not visit during this period?

Kenninji Temple was founded in 1202 by Eisai, the founder of the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism. The temple is crowded with worshippers, with many attractions such as the painting of the Wind and Thunder Gods by Tawaraya Sotatsu, the sliding door paintings by Kaihou Yushou, and the painting of twin dragons in the Hodo hall. Located in the Gion and Yasaka areas, it is close to other tourist attractions and is also highly recommended for its excellent accessibility.

Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is the head shrine of Tenmangu, or Tenjin Shrine, which has about 12,000 shrines throughout Japan, and is the place where the Tenjin faith began. It has a long history and was founded in 947. Because Sugawara no Michizane, a deity of the shrine, is regarded as deity of study, the shrine is visited by many students preparing for entrance exams, and is also a popular spot for school excursions. It is also famous for its plum blossoms, and during the plum season (around February), about 1,500 plum trees of 50 varieties can be enjoyed in the plum garden on the shrine precincts.

Tenmangu shrines dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane are located in many parts of Japan, but among them, Sugawarain Tenmangu Shrine is known as the birthplace of Sugawara no Michizane. In the precincts of the shrine, visitors can see a well that is said to have been used for the birth bath of Sugawara no Michizane when he was born. The precincts are small and compact, but like other Tenmangu shrines, it also enshrines a bronze statue of a cow. Located just west of the Kyoto Imperial Palace, it is a short walk from the recently introduced Goou Shrine, so we recommend that you visit both shrines at the same time.

Goou Shrine is located just west of the Kyoto Imperial Palace. The shrine is enshrined to Wake no Kiyomaro, and because of the legend that Wake no Kiyomaro was saved by boars, you can find unusual koma-inoshishi (guardian boars) and various boar goods. It is also known as the shrine of health for legs and feet because of the legend that Wake-no Kiyomaro's wound on his leg was healed after he was saved by boars.

Rozan-ji Temple is known as a temple related to Murasaki Shikibu (Author of “The Tale of Genji”). It is said that Murasaki Shikibu lived in the precincts of present-day Rozan-ji Temple, which means that The Tale of Genji was also written there. In reference to the story, the temple is also famous for its bellflowers, which can be enjoyed from June to September. You can spend a relaxing time looking at the garden from the main hall, and since it is located right in front of the Nashinoki Shrine introduced recently, it is recommended that you visit the shrine together.

Here is an introduction to the exhibition “Andy Warhol Kyoto” at the Kyocera Museum of Art. Andy Warhol is well known as a leading artist of Pop Art, and you have probably seen his works such as "The Three Marilyns" and "Campbell's Soup Can" at least once. The exhibition features approximately 200 works by Andy Warhol from his early years to his last years. There are no plans for the exhibition to travel around Japan, and it will be held only in Kyoto, so if you are interested, be sure to visit the KYOCERA Museum of Art during the exhibition period (September 17, 2022 - February 12, 2023).
