Early Cherry Blossom Guide to Kyoto
With the arrival of March and warming temperatures, it‘s time for the annual cherry blossom season. Typically, most varieties like Somei Yoshino bloom in mid-to-late March, while early-blooming types such as Kawazu-zakura begin to flower as early as mid-March, allowing visitors who arrive at the beginning of the month to enjoy the view.
🌸Chotoku-ji Temple
Located by the Kamo River in Demachiyanagi, a row of early cherry blossoms, a hybrid of the Hikan and Mame-zakura varieties, usually blooms in mid-to-late March in front of this temple.
🌸FSeitoku Junior High School building
Near the Shijo shopping district, this quiet path features a nostalgic old elementary school building surrounded by cherry blossoms.
🌸Kawazu-Zakura Cherry Trees in Yodo
A Kawazu-zakura cherry tree-lined path in the Fushimi area of Kyoto stretches approximately 1.3 km. The blooming season typically runs from early to mid-March each year.
