New on our Journal: a visit to Yamamoto Honke, the sake brewery that has shaped Fushimi since 1677.
Founded on the district’s own spring water, Shiragikusui, the brewery still brews today. Its flagship sake, Shinsei, carries calligraphy by the painter Tomioka Tessai — a gift to the eighth-generation Genbee Yamamoto that remains on the label.
For guests who want to go further, an English-guided tour of the brewery is available, including a tasting of selected sake.

At Miru Kyoto Gion, our lounge serves Yamamoto Honke’s Matsu no Midori (松の翠) by the glass, daily from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

代表銘柄「神聖」のラベルには、今も日本画家・富岡鐵斎が筆をとった文字が残ります。
酒蔵見学にご興味のある方へ。通常、一般向けの見学は行っておらず、ご希望の場合は来訪予定日の1週間前までに山本本家へ直接お問い合わせください。
MIRU Kyoto Gionのラウンジでは、山本本家の「松の翠」をグラスでお楽しみいただけます。
毎日15:00〜21:00のご提供です。

Coffee Base NASHINOKI sits inside the grounds of Nashinoki Shrine, a few minutes from the Kyoto Imperial Palace. Past the maple trees, through a long white noren, a black marble counter waits inside a renovated shrine building.
The cold brew is made with Somei no Mizu — one of Kyoto’s three historic springs, still flowing here today.
Coffee Base’s third location, and its quietest. Worth the detour.

Just a 10-minute walk from Miru Kyoto Gion.

Salon de Muge sits just beside Kikunoi’s main restaurant, near Kodaiji Temple — a short walk from Yasaka Shrine.
Same kitchen, same spirit, in a quieter form. The lunch bento requires a reservation. The café doesn’t — which means a line, especially in summer, when the kakigori comes out.

Matcha, strawberry, Mont Blanc. Shaved to order, over a moss garden view.
Worth the wait.

菊乃井本店のほど近くに佇む「無碍山房 サロン・ド・ムゲ」は、高台寺のそば、八坂神社から少し歩いた先にある、風情あふれる一軒です。

菊乃井の味と心を受け継ぎ、より静かなかたちで楽しめる場所です。お弁当は要予約、喫茶は予約不可。だからこそ、夏はかき氷を求めて列ができます。
抹茶にいちご、モンブラン。苔庭を眺めながら、ふわりと削りたてのかき氷を味わいます。

In Japan, there’s a custom of savoring the moments before soba arrives — sake, small dishes, a slow start to the meal. It’s called soba-mae, and it’s been done this way for generations.
At ZZZ, sushi joins that tradition: soba-mae, then sushi, then house-made soba to close. Quiet, unhurried, and a little indulgent.
Only 4 seats, dinner only. Reservation is a must, and opening days vary — check their Instagram before planning your visit.
