Coffee Base NASHINOKI sits inside the grounds of Nashinoki Shrine, a few minutes from the Kyoto Imperial Palace. Past the maple trees, through a long white noren, a black marble counter waits inside a renovated shrine building.
The cold brew is made with Somei no Mizu — one of Kyoto’s three historic springs, still flowing here today.
Coffee Base’s third location, and its quietest. Worth the detour.

Just a 10-minute walk from Miru Kyoto Gion.

Salon de Muge sits just beside Kikunoi’s main restaurant, near Kodaiji Temple — a short walk from Yasaka Shrine.
Same kitchen, same spirit, in a quieter form. The lunch bento requires a reservation. The café doesn’t — which means a line, especially in summer, when the kakigori comes out.

Matcha, strawberry, Mont Blanc. Shaved to order, over a moss garden view.
Worth the wait.

菊乃井本店のほど近くに佇む「無碍山房 サロン・ド・ムゲ」は、高台寺のそば、八坂神社から少し歩いた先にある、風情あふれる一軒です。

Looking for a detour that rewards the soul? Perched high in Kyoto’s Western Hills, Yoshimine-dera offers a sense of scale you won’t find in the city center.

It is famous for a massive, 600-year-old pine tree that grows sideways like a gliding dragon, and by late July, the temple grounds are covered in lush, deep green maples that offer a refreshing break from the summer heat.

For a sporty summer adventure, we recommend visiting by electric bike. The 15km ride from Miru Kyoto Gion takes about 90 to 120 minutes, leading you through local backstreets and along the river. While the mountain path gets steep toward the end, the electric boost makes the climb fun and adventurous, even in the July sun. It is the perfect way to feel the summer breeze and discover a hidden side of Kyoto at your own pace.

Housed in a preserved Machiya townhouse, this dessert parlor is legendary for its handmade Warabi Mochi, crafted daily from 100% pure bracken starch for a texture that is famously silky and melt-in-your-mouth.

As the July heat peaks, locals and travelers alike flock here for their signature Kakigori (shaved ice). These aren’t your typical snow cones; they are towering, delicate clouds of ice drizzled with rich Uji matcha or roasted kinako, often topped with their signature chewy mochi. Finding a seat on the tatami mats and looking out over the weeping willow trees while enjoying a chilled bowl of matcha sweets is a ritual that makes the Kyoto humidity feel like a distant memory.
