祇園祭 山鉾巡行

祇園祭の見どころのひとつが「辻回し（つじまわし）」です。

鉾は車輪の向きを変えることができないため、交差点では竹を敷き、水をかけて滑りやすくし、大勢の曳き手が力を合わせて少しずつ方向を変えます。

何度も少しずつ回しながら、巨大な鉾が見事に向きを変える瞬間は圧巻。
無事に回りきると、沿道からは大きな歓声と拍手が湧き起こり、祇園祭ならではの一体感に包まれます。

受け継がれてきた伝統と、人々の力がひとつになる瞬間を、ぜひ間近でご覧ください。

Gion Festival – Yamaboko Procession

One of the highlights of the Gion Festival is the Tsujimawashi, the dramatic turning of the towering festival floats at intersections.

Since the floats cannot steer their wheels, workers lay down bamboo, pour water to reduce friction, and dozens of pullers work together to slowly rotate the massive float.

It is an impressive display of teamwork and tradition. When the float successfully completes the turn, the crowd erupts into cheers and applause, creating one of the most exciting moments of the festival.

本日、祇園祭の厄除けちまきを授かり、当館の玄関に飾りました。

祇園祭のちまきは食べるものではなく、疫病や災いから家を守る「厄除けのお守り」です。一年間、玄関に飾ることで家内安全や無病息災を願う京都の伝統があります。

🏮Gion Matsuri Protective Chimaki🏮

Today, we received a traditional Gion Matsuri Chimaki and have placed it at the entrance of our ryokan.

Unlike edible rice dumplings, the Gion Matsuri chimaki is a protective talisman believed to ward off illness and misfortune. It is traditionally displayed at the entrance of a home or inn throughout the year as a symbol of good health and protection.

We hope you enjoy this special Kyoto tradition when you visit Nanzenji Yachiyo.

ヒオウギは、京都の夏を代表する祭礼「祇園祭」にゆかりの深い植物です。

古くから厄除けや無病息災を願う花として親しまれ、祇園祭の時期には、町家やお店の玄関先にも飾られ、京都の夏の訪れを静かに知らせてくれます。

千年以上の歴史を受け継ぐ祇園祭。
町を彩る山鉾や祭囃子とともに、こうした季節のしつらいもまた、京都ならではの風景のひとつです。

With the arrival of July, we have placed a Hiōgi (Japanese blackberry lily) at our front desk.

The Hiōgi has long been associated with the Gion Matsuri, one of Kyoto’s most celebrated summer festivals.

For centuries, it has been displayed in homes and traditional townhouses during the festival season as a symbol of protection from illness and misfortune, quietly announcing the arrival of Kyoto’s summer.

As the city comes alive with magnificent festival floats and the sound of traditional music, these seasonal decorations remain an important part of Kyoto’s cultural heritage.

We have recently renewed the fusuma sliding panels of the decorative shelving in our guest room, Ukifune.

Inspired by the room’s name, we chose the traditional Japanese pattern known as Kanseisui (flowing water).

This classic motif represents gently flowing streams and evokes the image of a boat drifting quietly upon the water, making it a fitting design for a room named Ukifune.
