When we first entered in this ancient house we discovered that it was connected to a big garden with a giant tree that looked powerful and protecting. We then decided that this view should be magnified and conceived the house in relation to this natural presence. Here you can experience a unique relationship between nature and architecture. The house features the best feelings of the traditional J
apanese home -- wooden pillars and beams, tatami, sliding doors -- with a contemplative view on a Japanese garden, sunlight and openness. Guest access
The sleeping area is a 8 tatami bedroom on the ground floor, and an elevated loft space. The Garden house has: high-speed Internet, fully equipped kitchen, a big bathroom with a garden view (there is shower curtain), a separate toilet, an open garden and a deck, 2 bicycles (or more on rental). The house will be entirely yours. Interaction with guests
We try to stay discrete with our guests but we can meet you upon or call you. You can also call us or send us emails. The level of interaction is up to you. In case you need us we will be there in few minutes. The neighborhood
Lovely traditional neighborhood close to Kyoto University, with plenty of local restaurants and cafes. Okazaki used to be a small village in the "dark valley" (Kurodani), North of Gion, at the outskirts of the city center, and where Kyoto University was settled. Now it is at the center of Kyoto cultural area, with the Okazaki Museum Park, Zen monasteries, Kurodani temples and the philosopher's path. It is a perfect area for a retreat with the feeling of living in a preserved local community.
