This hostel was "first hostel" in Kyoto.
When 2006, all cheap accommodations used "guesthouse".
But, out accommodation is different of target of the guesthouse.
Then,
We started Kyoto hostel on 2006.
Right now, how many hostels in Kyoto?

Untypical hostel. This hostel reuse traditional Kyoto style house.Old and silent town in the Kyoto.

This is not a Ryokan.
Ryokan is rich accommodation and Ryokan building is build for Ryokan.
Hostel is not a Ryokan. Building is reused regular house. But, many people misunderstand.
If normal Ryokan name is Ryokan.
I suggest it, Our name is poorly Ryokan.

The poorly Ryokan "Kanouya" (is not a Ryokan)

I wish no one misunderstand.

"Hotels" are same, in the world.
Traditional style house is in located the country.

Kyoto hostel Kanouya is reused Japanese traditional style house (Kyoto has Kyoto style. This house is Kyoto style).
Your Japanese style house experience is only Japan.
