When Kyoto gets too hot, step inside.

Spend a summer day in a cool machiya, a glass of cold sake in hand, surrounded by indigo, conversation, and craftsmanship.

Wander through the gallery, discover the beauty of traditional Japanese indigo dyeing, or join a hands-on shibori workshop where you’ll dye your own azuma bag, watching the fabric transform into deep shades of blue as the patterns you created gradually emerge.

Whether you’re simply curious or looking to try something new, everyone is welcome.

Our gallery is open daily, and on weekends our friend kyoto.tama joins us with her Café & Bar pop-up, serving refreshing drinks, homemade desserts, and carefully selected sake - some of which is even used in the indigo fermentation process.

Come in, cool down, and spend some time with us.

An Evening of Tea by Candlelight 🕯️

This summer, Tea Master Eriko Mikubo welcomes guests into her private tea house, Hekishōken (碧笑軒), for an intimate evening in the way of sadō - the Way of Tea.

The experience begins with a seasonal meal accompanied by thoughtfully selected sake before unfolding into a traditional tea ceremony by candlelight, where matcha and wagashi are served in stillness.

An invitation to slow down, gather in the tatami room, and experience one of Japan’s most enduring traditions after dark.
